mrchetsteadman
I mean, I have an idea, it's my network box. But how to I configure it to wire my entire house? This allows me to powerline right? I did it with my last house but it was MUCH MORE simple than this thing. Any ideas what I need to do?
+John Teacake MVC Posted May 1, 2015 MVC Share Posted May 1, 2015 They look like fiber connectors. Maybe to a Satellite dish or Communal Broadband link? goretsky 1 Share
firey
Those look like phone line hookups (the smaller wires) and then cable line hookups. I assume the black one runs into your house, the white ones go to all the cable recepticles throughout your house. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish? neufuse Veteran Posted May 1, 2015 Veteran Share Posted May 1, 2015 that's just a 110 punchdown for Ethernet or maybe phone, they use cat5 for phone now days also and some coax cable for television cables I'm going to assume it's Ethernet because usually they put power in there so you can connect a router at that point goretsky 1 Share
sc302 Veteran Posted May 1, 2015 Veteran Share Posted May 1, 2015 Ok so the hanging thing is you basic cable hook up. You have a cat 5/6 on the bottom left. You have a combo distribution box but I can not clearly see the connectors but none of it looks like fiber. I see a lot of coax and possibly some network punch downs (the 110 block). Which is at the bottom.
mrchetsteadman
Sorry folks, my daughter was born the other day and no one told me it was so much work lol. I'm trying to wire the whole house for internet which is about 3,000 sqft. I have a 100Mbps connection but my router barely gets 60Mbps to the livingroom from the router location (my office). What do you guys need from me to figure this out? I'm trying to accomplish better internet throughout the house.
sc302 Veteran Posted May 2, 2015 Veteran Share Posted May 2, 2015 Hard wire everything. Put a small patch panel in there. Use powerline adapters. Not sure what you are looking for us to do over the internet. What I would do is to start mounting those wires junction boxes mrchetsteadman 1 Share

PNWDweller
Looks like an expansion module for a smart home setup; http://www.smarthome.com/combined-expansion-module-8-location-punchdown-phone-1-x-8-coax.html More specifically, a "COMBINED COAX AND TELEPHONE DISTRIBUTION MODULE FOR QUICKNETWORK PANELS" (PDF) I hope this much helps to solve what this is for. Congratulations on your new baby girl! mrchetsteadman 1 Share

Dot Matrix
Yikes, that's a mess. I especially love the cable that looks like it was tied around itself there, off to the left. TBH, I can't make heads or tails of what is in the picture. If you're looking to hardwire your flat, I'd go the patch panel route. Find a central location to make a small networking rack with your modem/router, and run your cabling to the different rooms from there. Be mindful of the 100m Ethernet cable limit, and try not to bend (or tie) the cables. You risk untying the twisted pairs, which could create cross interference. xendrome
Just pay someone to wire your house to have it done correctly, budget about $100 per drop for the CAT5e runs. Additional hardware extra. sc302 1 Share
