Last month, Neowin exclusively revealed an image of LG's new Windows Phone, its first since the company abandoned the platform years ago to focus on its Android handset range. The company confirmed last year that it was planning a return to the Windows Phone world, but fifteen months later, it still hasn't announced a single device running Microsoft's mobile OS.
The device carried Verizon branding in the image that we published a few weeks ago, and it emerged last week that the handset was being developed under the model number 'VW820' - and now, full details of the device have been leaked, including its product name: LG Lancet.
Windows Central has confirmed that the handset is indeed heading to Verizon - and as we suspected, it's no high-end flagship. Indeed, the specs leaked today reveal that - like so many other new Windows Phones - it will target the lower end of the market.
Its key specs include:
- 4.5-inch display with FWVGA (854x480px) resolution
- Quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor (MSM8916)
- 8GB storage (4GB usable) with microSD card expansion
- 8MP rear camera with 1080p video recording
- VGA front-facing camera
- 4G LTE (CDMA)
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
- 2100mAh battery
- 129.8 x 64.8 x 10.7mm; 143g
Like Microsoft's recently-launched Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL, the LG handset will launch with the latest OS version, Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2. The Lancet's product brochure reveals that it will feature an 'ergonomic design made to fit perfectly in-hand', along with other features such as Knock On - which also features in other LG handsets - allowing users to double-tap the screen to switch the display on or off.
Unfortunately, there's no info yet on pricing or availability for the Lancet, but with so many details about the device continuing to emerge, it seems likely that it will launch soon.
