Having a hard time deciding between Nexus 6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Recommended Posts

I like the Nexus 6 because of the constant updates. I know I will always have the latest Android version. Not sure how it is on the Note 4. I do like the bigger screen size on the Note 4. I also the stylus option but I don't think I will be using it very often.

I'm not sure on the bloatware on the Note 4. But I would prefer the fast Android stock experience. So these are options I want in a phone in order of importance.

1. Updates on the operating system. Not left behind.

2. Speed!!!

3. A good camera to take pictures and also video.

4. Screen size

5. Dual speakers

I am currently a T-Mobile user and I have the iPhone 6. I just don't like that I can't customize my iPhone that much.

What do you recommend?

While I have never owned either one, I have read reviews, tests and all the specs. I will talk about good and bad things about each (specific features that each is missing especially)

Bad things about Nexus 6:

It Cannot record 60fps and 120fps what so ever. Even using some "app" It still is unable to record 60fps and 120fps videos.

Good things:

Stock Android Experience

Fast Charge

Speedy Performance and Software Updates (one of the first to get new updates)

Camera 2 API (RAW Photography)

Bad things about Note 4:

Touchwiz (worst built in launcher...yeah yeah it can be replaced by other launchers BUT its built into the Android and you cannot remove it completely)

Slow Updates.... Super slow updates. Be prepared to wait anywhere between 4 - 5 months for new updates. If you are comparing to stock android phones (Nexus 5, 6 etc) then updates are behind 8 - 9 months.

No re-sale value

Pre-installed Bloatware

Even with the latest update, It still cannot take advantage of lollipop's Camera Api 2 (RAW Photography)

Good things:

S Pen (photo notes, write on your phone)

60fps/ 120fps video recording

you must mean something else?    not holding the value as good?   also not true.

No body like these phones once they are used even for a few months. Whereas, Stock Nexus phones are always high in demand.

I don't see anyone mentioning this

1. Nothing beats a Nexus device for that. Note 4 is quite a few updates behind.

2. The stock experience of the Nexus 6 makes it a snappier device.

3. Note 4 has that. Nexus 6 is mediocre here.

4. Nexus 6 has a larger screen.

5. Nexus 6 has that, the Note 4 does not.

Sounds like far more of what you want is in a Nexus 6.

Between these two handsets, I highly preferred you to go with Nexus 6. It included such an impressive features such as a powerful next Gen Snapdragon processor, improved camera, a new version of Android and a premium design. You can watch movies on its large screen very comfortably with loud, front facing stereo speakers. It is the most powerful device as compared to Galaxy S4 Note.

If you have to choose now, Nexus 6.

However if you can wait (I know the argument about waiting) but we aren't too far from a new Google phone is due in a few months and some of the rumours are around a much better Camera.

Another alternative, have you looked at the Moto X? They may be slightly behind a Nexus device in terms of updates but they come out a lot more frequently then for a Samsung from what I can tell. And it's effectively a smaller Nexus 6.

Same applies though, 3rd Gen Moto X should be announced soon and is expected around Sept time so its a case of do you wait (there will always be something better coming) or jump now?

I have a Nexus 6 also, and am not a fan of TouchWiz so my opinion may also be somewhat biased.

Some things to note -

1) Although I love the size, the Nexus 6 feels heavier (it is, but only 8g according to specs when it feels far more).

2) My Nexus 6 seems to crash rather a lot more than any phone I have owned for quite some time (including Windows phone, iPhone, Nexus 4/5). It happens when I am using it (rather than crashing in my pocket and making me uncontactable for hours).

3) The curved back makes it a bit annoying to use laid down on a flat surface - I believe the Note 4 has a flat back.

Otherwise I have to say I have truly fallen in love with the Nexus 6.  I was a bit worried when I bought it, but it is much better than I expected - unlike the Nexus 4 and 5 which really did not live up to my expectations at all.

I would pick the nexus 6 since nexus devices are immortal, long time of updates and also lots and lots of custom roms for a long time. Compared to the note 4 which has a locked samsung bootloader in most cases and nees a lot of hacks for trh drivers to work in custom roms >.>

Though I'm biased as nexus 5 owner...

I would go with the Nexus 6. I totally dislike the touchwiz feature in Samsung. Dont know why Samsung will put that. Both are android phones with great User interface . Which ever you go for is a good buy.
