Microsoft is giving away $100,000 and two HoloLens development kits to academics

Although the excitement for HoloLens continues to grow, we still have a long way for the augmented reality headset to find its way onto store shelves. But, it looks like Microsoft is now accepting HoloLens Academic Research Request for Proposals that will enable qualifying institutions a chance to be awarded $100,000 USD and two HoloLens development kits.

In order to expand the content and capabilities of the headset, Microsoft is eager to put the HoloLens in the hands of bright minds. While Microsoft has done impressive things with the HoloLens, there is still so much more that can be accomplished and discovered.

Microsoft made an incredible splash in the beginning of the year with the unveiling of HoloLens. Although VR is making a huge push this year, Microsoft seems to be one step ahead as they have built an augmented reality headset. While many have yet to be able to experience it first hand, this is quite simply, the future. Microsoft has not announced a public release date for the HoloLens.
