Skiver Veteran Posted December 7, 2005 Veteran Share Posted December 7, 2005 first of all thank you for your work...great job in giving your opinion on these tools was shocked with DC++ review tho...i have been using it for over a year now and i dont think i have ever had a problem finding files...sure you have to share a fair few to get into the better hubs but whats the big deal? the people you downloaded the file off have been good enough to share their files so why not yours...it helps the community grow and would end the not being able to find a file... say you had bandwith limits fair enough...use DC only when needed and get something like netlimiter and limit ur upload speeds... cant remember who said it but where did you get the 100GB share limit from? im not sure on my share limit now...prob around 35/40GB but i have found plenty of hubs where the share of the hub is in the TB and thier is no share limit imposed...but like i said if your gonna leech then your not worth anybodys time... thats enough of my ranting for DC now...:D:

Slimy
-->P2P<--/ All clients below are free although some have a pro version, which is not recommended. Thanks to P2P we have many technological advancements , yet p2p won't ever die. >eDonkey/Overnet< (ED2K Network) http://www.edonkey2000.com/ 1.4 [Worth A Shot] 1. Original app, eMule is based on this, very good overall 2. Less results that eMule, still very sharp app tho 3. Less updates.. slower downloads This is #2 after eMule, for the ED2K Network), but still very good... Uninstalled >eMule< (ED2K Network) http://www.emule-project.net/ 0.47a [Worth A Shot] 1. BEST app for rare files, great search feature (global) 2. Solid speeds when properly configured, can handle multiple files while keeping strong speeds 3. Many updates - features added often, many nice improvements 4. Can easily install on top of earlier versions and has a great comment system This is the app I recommend for ED2K and I've been using it for years... Stays on Computer >eMule Plus< (ED2K Network) http://www.emuleplus.tk/ - do NOT dl this client plz 1.1a [Don't Waste Your Time] 1. Garbage, shame on you for trying to modify and improve eMule 2. "Eye-candy version" - eMule does everything fine, no need for "eye-candy" to slow it down 3. Slower and less results in search Honestly, use eMule as it deserves all the credit... Uninstalled >NeoMule< (ED2K Network) http://www.eselfarm.info/neosite/ 3.0 [Don't Waste Your Time] 1. It is a leecher mod according to this thread: http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/t83026-.html 2. Faster than eMule, but less files found, slower startup, bloated interface 3. Overall garbage needs lots of work to get anywhere I'll use the original, no need for any cheapness... Uninstalled >Shareaza< (Gnutella, Gnutella2, Bittorent and Shareaza's Network) http://www.shareaza.com/ 2.2.1.0 [Worth A Shot] 1. Great client for downloading off various Network)s! 2. Slow. Although it has many Network)s, it searches and dls much slower than individual clients 3. Not recommended for speed or rare files I'd rather have individual clients to do the work, but that's just me, maybe one client is good enough for you... Uninstalled >Mercora< http://www.mercora.com/ 5.0 [Worth A Shot] 1. Fast, good files, good quality 2. Completely legal, free, but ads 3. Good updates, much work put into it This program definitely has a future, already it has many members but personally I like the radio more... Uninstalled >Kazaa and its many versions< no link N/A [Don't Waste Your Time] 1. Spyware, slow speeds, little results 2. Fake files, viruses, trojans and so on 3. Still has a couple of good files, but way better alternatives out there Was good, now it's just crapware... Uninstalled >Ares< (Ares/Warez Network) http://aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net/ 1.9.1 [Worth A Shot] 1. Very clean interface, very fast and minimal (especially ares lite) 2. Solid download speeds, good search results 3. Multiple searches and a couple of other features would be nice One of the best, but I've seen better... Uninstalled >Warez P2P< (Ares/Warez Network) http://www.warezclient.com/ 2.95 [Worth A Shot] 1. Very good app, good speeds, very good searches 2. Bloated interface, ads, but ok custom install 3. Needs a lite version, pointless features Although I thought it was an improvement over ares, warez p2p had some junk I didn't have the energy to deal with... Uninstalled >Limewire< (Gnutella Network) http://www.limewire.com/ 4.10.9 [Worth A Shot] 1. Great gui, very nice layout - a little bloated 2. Solid speeds, frequent updates but not much improvement 3. New files - good feature, finds much less files in the search compared to other clients Don't need this, simply better clients out there... Uninstalled >Bearshare< (Gnutella Network) http://www.bearshare.com/ 5.2.3 [Worth A Shot] 1. Very good layout, especially the search part, very customizable 2. Great speeds, great search results 3. Many updates, nice improvements, watch out for the adware Very fast and many search results, but I don't like the adware... Uninstalled >WinMX< http://www.winmx.com/ (REMOVED by the RIAA), update: seems to be back in business - will review again >iMesh< (Gnutella Network) and imesh Network) http://www.imesh.com/ 6.0 [Don't Waste Your Time] 1. A bit bloated interface, pretty bad memory and cpu usage 2. Adaware, slow search speeds 3. Fairly fast download speeds (often queues) I won't use it mainly because of its bloat and adaware... Uninstalled >Gnucleus< (Gnutella Network) http://www.gnucleus.com/Gnucleus/ 1.8.6 [Don't Waste Your Time] 1. Can't seem to connect at all, shutdown is very fast 2. Interface isn't too bad, could be better, opens many windows 3. Hasn't been updated for a long time It might work for you, but I couldn't get it to work... Uninstalled >KCeasy< (Gnutella, OpenFT and Ares/Warez Network)s) http://www.kceasy.com/ 0.17rc1 [Worth A Shot] 1. Uses 3 sets of ports for every Network) and must be edited a config file and not in the actual program 2. Ares plugin is a great addition but pointless built-in browser is included, great custom installer 3. Still seems to be slow and fails to download certain files, search needs a lot of work This client has come a long way but still has a lot to improve, but for now... Uninstalled >Manolito< (Manolito Network) http://www.manolito.com/ 1.09 [Don't Waste Your Time] 1. Speeds are alright, search could be better 2. Interface is bloated 3. Pointless features: buddy list, chat, voice chat, media player and playlist manager Needs a lot of work, Uninstalled >Piolet< (Manolito Network) http://www.piolet.com/ (site now redirects after 5seconds to manolito.com) 1.05 [Don't Waste Your Time] 1. This network is extremely sweet too bad the client has spyware 2. No new version for a while but beta is a not bad improvement (1.83) 3. Client isn't as fast as others... Needs certain improvements and no new version for a while, therefore... Uninstalled >Blubster< (Manolito Network) http://www.blubster.com/ 2.5 [Don't Waste Your Time] 1. Loaded with spyware and trojans 2. Great search and solid speeds 3. Same network as Piolet, but Piolet is better Unfortunately with the spyware/trojans it's pure garbage... Uninstalled >Cabos< (Gnutella Network) http://cabos.sourceforge.jp/ 0.6.3 [Worth A Shot] 1. Amazing speeds, great search results and clean interface 2. Small and no bloat 3. Very little bugs and very frequent updates I love this little app, very efficient and finds lots of files... Stays on Computer >Direct Connect< http://www.neo-modus.com/ (DC) http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/ (DC++) [Worth A Shot] 1. Huge range of servers, but share limit usually very large - must share a lot to get anything good 2. Lots of time wasted finding peers with files you want, tho there is a huge amount of files, good for between friends 3. If you get in the community, you will have it made, but usually it's not really worth it I got my p2p apps that find the files for me and save me time, so... Uninstalled >Soulseek< (Soulseek Network) http://www.slsknet.org/ Client 157 test 8 [Worth A Shot] 1. Very small and clean interface, useful wishlist feature 2. Finds many files but sometimes finds nothing/very little 3. Somewhat fast speeds, could be better Just doesn't do as much as others, but will keep an eye out... Uninstalled >?torrent<> (Bittorent client) http://www.utorrent.com/ 1.5 [Worth A Shot] 1. Uses VERY little memory, cpu usage and hdd space 2. Great speeds, simple and clean interface, frequent updates 3. Wide range of features for such a small file, no installation required Does everything I need and is the fastest for me, makes other clients feel bloated...Stays on Computer> >Azureus<> (Bittorent client) http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ 2.4.0.2 [Worth A Shot] 1. Wide range of features, great plugins 2. Horrible mem usage mainly because of java, speeds are solid 3. Most popular client, updates once in a while Because of memory and cpu usage, this has been...Uninstalled> >Bitcomet<> (Bittorent client) http://www.bitcomet.com/ 0.66 [Worth A Shot] 1. Fast and reliable, good updates 2. Medium memory usage, great speeds 3. Nice and clean layout... minimal interface I loved this client for a while but i've found better...Uninstalled> >Bitlord<> (Bittorent client) http://www.bitlord.com/ 1.1 [Don't Waste Your Time] 1. Direct rip off bitcomet 2. Only difference is a horrible torrent search in the left frame 3. Same version number, common guys, sigh - horrible I hate when people do this...Uninstalled> >Bittornado<> (Bittorent client) http://www.bittornado.com/ 0.3.15 [Worth A Shot] 1. Speeds aren't very good 3. Needs some solid improvements Just doesn't cut it...Uninstalled> >Ziptorrent<> (Bittorent client) http://www.ziptorrent.com/ 1.3.7.3 [Worth A Shot] 1. Mando
A worthwhile addition to the P2P section would be Peerguardian 2. Peerguardian 2 homepage There is also PeerGuardian Lite > PeerGuardian Lite is a derivative of PeerGuardian 2 made to consume as little CPU/RAM as possible. It has no UI or options and consists of a single tray icon. Keep those prying eyes at bay from your torrents :shiftyninja: thanks for the heads up BTW :D Edited February 6, 2006 by Mando
