Hey

Just a quick question...

Could I take a generic external usb drive case (like you would put a HD/CD/DVD drive into) and then put an external caddy (like you put HDs in slot loading cases) into?

Example:

Put one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mobile-Rack-IDE-3-5-...1QQcmdZViewItem

Into one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/External-Drive-Enclo...1QQcmdZViewItem

you could as long as the external usb enclosure was a 5.25" bay yes.

a normal 3.5" like the Icy Box`s (my fav external ensclosures) wouldnt be big enough to hold the caddy. They are designed to fit into a cdrom bay, so as long as the enclosure would support 5.25" CDROM then it would fit. smile.gif

any removeable caddys ive used did not require any drivers installed and connected the back of the frame to the IDE ribbon/power leads.

The best that I've found is the ExShuttle 2000. It comes with a removable HD tray, and can be ordered with many trays. It's only USB 2.0, no firewire, but work great for the last three years. Power switch is on the front.
