zeroday
Chicago (IL) - A hacker's claim that he gained access to all of Valve's internal files was played out too far, even though it appears he did hack a third-party site that deals with Valve, according to a 1UP story. Yesterday, a near panic set in for customers of Valve's digital download service Steam, after someone posted screenshots of what appeared to be sensitive data from Valve's servers. The breach happened to be on a much smaller scale. What the hacker found was access to a third-party site that deals with Valve's Cyber Cafe billing program, something that doesn't affect individual customers at all. Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi told TG Daily, "The alleged hacker gained access to a third-party site that Valve uses to manage the commercial partners in its Cyber Caf? program. This Cyber Caf? billing system is not connected to Steam.b> We are working with law enforcement agencies on this matter." Source Havent seen this anywhere else. Thought it was worth the post:):)

Kirkburn
I actually don't believe that, there where some CC info already out.... Ah, so you'd rather believe an anonymous hacker (in hiding from the police) than a well-known company spokesperson? Sure lying in public is totally legal ... Lexcyn
Sure it is, take a look at Mr. Bush. OH SNAP! But yeah, the CC's were from the Cafe program and that's it (if what Valve is saying is true).
Mouldy Punk
The thing is though, the hacker put on his site saying that he does have regular customer's details aswell and that he was putting together a huge list to release as a spreadsheet. We'll just have to wait and see what happens really.
L3thal Veteran Posted April 24, 2007 Veteran Share Posted April 24, 2007 Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much. If this was a widespread, problamatic issue that occurred, it would get more publicity.
