You can add the following to the list as well:

VoiceCandy - http://www.potionfactory.com/voicecandy/

Love this app. It's simple and fun. Nicely designed.

Feel free to contribute and I'll add them to the categories. Most, if not all of these software should be Universal for PPC and Intel compatibility.
[*]Growl - system wide notification system extensible to many different applications - Free

Growl is great - especially when Chax is installed and sending IM notifications. There are more settings than some know about, which can be found here

I would like to also point out Photomatrix Pro as a great piece of software.... Excellent if you're into photography and want to play with HDR imagery.

Growl - very nifty program.

Is there a program that works as like a Phone Manager solution? My bluetooth phone will accept and receive files from my Macbook but it will not send files to my Macbook. hmm.gif

I just got myself a MacBook two days ago (who would've ever thought) and I am trying to figure out why Java is so slow and sometimes unresponsive with Firefox but works fine with Safari.

FOr example, I attempt to run Scottrader from scottrade.com and it takes 2-3 minutes to load and it is really slow. If I run it under Safari it runs perfect.

Any ideas?

Coda is a great application worth mentioning for people in need of webdesign applications.

@Lethal: No idea man. I have no problems with the Java on Firefox here. The loading takes a while but no 3 minutes.

Hehe . . . actually if you want to run Windows exclusively I don't think you need Bootcamp, even. Just install Windows as you normally would.

But I don' think you can then go and dual boot OS X once you've done that. Correct me if I'm wrong . . .

Hmm... I think you're right. If you delete the partition that holds Mac OS X, the only way to be able to re-install it would be to run Mac OS X from an external drive, run Disk Utility and then recreate a partition...

I was thinking about doing this once but decided not to since you need Mac OS X to install computer firmware updates.

After few days on my Mac, I found:

Journler- A powerful, cheap, complete note taking, organizer, program.
Wile it's not strong as MSFT OneNote 2007, it's quite good for a replacement.
Good app for a student.
http://journler.com/

Sidenotes
- A small multi quick-note taking program.
It hide on the side of the screen and it's useful when having quick notes to write.
It support text and pictures drag-n-drop as well.

Desktopia- A wall paper changer that you set to change walls according the time of the day
http://www.chatelp.org/?page_id=6

Butler- I didn't play with it yet, but it's a VERY strong app
It's hard to explain all the features it have, so just check it out
http://www.manytricks.com/butler/

Plainview- a FullScreen Webkit browser
For the fullscreen lover or people that make presentations of webpages (Designers will fall in love with this)
http://www.barbariangroup.com/software/plainview_app_1_0

MultiClutch- A very useful PrefPane for all MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and L08 MacBook owners
It allow to change the behavior of the multitouch gestures for different functions
Changes can be Global or you can add any Cocoa Apps (Carbon isn't supported) to make app specific commands.
(Unfortunately it don't support the 4 fingers Gestures yet)

BTW, Opera have a MacOSX version you know?
Why it's not in the list?

We should add openoffice to the list, as it is now native for Mac OS.

http://www.openoffice.org/

Thanks for the list, will check out some of the apps.
