Worst hard drive crash I've seen

Recommended Posts

We pulled a bad drive apart at work this afternoon. It had a nasty rattle to it before we opened it, but we didn't expect this:

Edit: Just in case you're wondering, the drive was a Quantum Fireball CR 8.4 AT

Wow :| metal shavings everywhere

....but the question is.... will it blend? :shiftyninja:

the thing is, it almost looks like it was opened before and not in a clean room - maybe some contaminents or even liquids got in there ??

I dunno - Im just trying to figure out how in the world something could get THAT FUBAR !

I guess this is another vote for SSD around the corner :)

the 64 Gb MITRON is 2x as fast as a Raptor RAID 0 .... and no moving parts !!!

.... so I slapped everything back together, fired up Spinrite in Level 2. Three hours later, the computer booted and all data was recovered!
