yeah im a yankee fan. and thats exactly what the red sox are trying to do. beat the yankees and overcome the "curse." they are basically going to try and buy a world series like we have seen done in the past recently by the marlins. and wouldnt the trade consist of the red sox having to pay the rest of a-rod's ridiculously large contract?

It'll never happen. That is just WAY too much money to throw away. The Rangers would get a free player. BoSox pay for both contracts? Heck, A-Rod's contract is big enough as it is.

I'd keep Nomar. A Rod is overpaid and not worth the lose of manny and nomar plus money. Bosox can do it without A Rod. Schilling was the answer. They're set.

Isn't that what the Yankees try and do every year? Last year they has a payroll of about $180m compared to around $105 for the Red Sox. The Red Sox mgmt have consistently said they will not go over the luxury tax threshold.

Regarding A-Rod for Manny.... The deal will save the Rangers about $80m over the life of the contracts (giving them a lot of flexibilty for the future). The Red Sox will try to get rid of an uphappy Manny and pick up the best player in the league who is only 28 yrs old. Also, several players are up for new contracts next year (Martinez, Lowe, Varitek, Garciaparra, Nixon). They cannot pay all of them so they have to get creative now. By doing swapping these players, the Sox have both a slugger and a superstar shortstop. That makes superstar Garciaparra expendable and they hope to get some value in return.

Manny could go for all I care, he's turned into the Sox's latest Mo Vaughan, especially in this last post season. People just wait for him to come up and hit homers, or strike out. It works, sometimes, but it's not pretty. Losing Nomar would be kind of sad though, he's such a home crowd star now.

Not so sure all he does is hit a homer or strike out. Those are mighty impressive all-around offensive numbers. The postseason numbers for the entire Red Sox roster was a but dissapointing. Remember, Manny did have that huge home run in game 5 against Oakland.

What about trying to resign Nomar for around 12m/yr and move him either to third or left field?

I know he's a good hitter, but that's not what any expects of him. Every time he comes up people are looking for a home run. This was especially tur in the post season when the bottom half of the line-up was making most of the runs, and the best hitters were struggling. Granted he made some huge hits, but I'd rather have a player whose consistent in the post season than trying to be a hero.

And I agree about Nomar, there are plently of possitions he can play and he's huge for the team.

Why wouldnt the Red Sox have to pay A-rod's contract? the point is to f'n sign him to their team. And by the way, the deal would be A-Rod restructuring a good ammt of his deal so it would help keep the BoSox competitive. The Sox would pay some of Ramirez' contract because with the Rangers making bonehead moves like signing Chan Ho 'Anyone in the lineup can crank it outta the' Park for 12 million, and Juan 'After that last beer I'm so' Gonzalez for 13.5 million. And for that Yanks fan, who thinks hes onto our plan..your right. Why wouldnt the management of the Red Sox try to win the world series? I'm sure Steinbrenner isn't in the business to make friends....Nomar wants a huge deal making Jeter-like 15-16 million, hes gotta go. Prob Glaus from Angels. Saying that, i think this is a really iffy move for the Red Sox, while they pick up one of the best all around players in the game ( or maybe THE best right now depending who you ask) they'll lose Nomar and Manny. The Manny issue is interesting, hes really f'ing good hitting wise but he also has a huge contract and committed blasphemy against Red Sox nation by saying he wanted to be a Yankee during that whole 'I'm too sick to play *cough* *sneeze* *cough*' fit he had.

Does everyone seriously think A-Rod + SomeOtherPlayerHere would be a better fit then Nomar and Manny? Their offense was absolutely nasty last year as is, and would probably be better served by going for one more pitcher then paying 30Million+/yr for ARod.

There's too many situations that have to happen just for the trade to work out.

1) The Sox have to trade Nomar, their current shortstop (obviously). The Angels and Dodgers are both rumored to be interested, but it's not known if the Sox will have to pay any portion of his contract.
2) The Sox also must pay the Rangers 5 million annually for each year that they have Ramirez. This would be used by the Rangers to go after pitching.
3) A-Rod must waive his no-trade clause, which he has said he will do, but you never know what could happen.
4) A-Rod and Showalter recently started talking again on good terms.
5) Hart, the Rangers GM, said that the Red Sox haven't really made any substancial offer and that the Rangers will most likely start the season with A-Rod as SS.

Theo and mgmt have said they will not pay the contract of anyone else not playing in Boston. Plus, Nomar is making $11.5m this year. Those two teams will trade straight up for Nomar.

Manny for A-Rod is a pretty decent offer to me. Saving > $80m over the life of the contracts sounds appetizing if I were Hart/Hicks.

Plus, this is getting pretty serious. MLB and Texas has approved John Henry, the owner of the Red Sox, to meet with Rodriguez. That is pretty significant. All of these comments are just my opinion of course.

1) They could. But the fans would be in a riot over Garci. leaving town, plus that the Angels and Dodgers really don't want to add too much payroll, but are willing to add a small amount.
2) They will not trade, then, it's as simple as that. Dream all you want, but Texas has already said the only way at all they'll trade is if they get money.
3) Yeah, I don't think that'll be a problem.
4) Texas is split between A-Rod and Showalter. Most of them liked working for Showalter, but A-Rod tried to start a few revolts, from what I've heard.
5) True, but they want money... Lots of it. Unfortunately, that may mean no trade.

If the Sox pay money, they'll get the trade. If they don't, I highly doubt they will... Right now I'd say it's 50-50.

Even though I'm a Yankee fan, I have to say that if the A-Rod - Ramirez trade completes, the Red Sox have a VERY legitimate chance of capturing the AL East title. It seems that the Red Sox have been making all the right moves this offseasnn, while the Yankees have making all the wrong ones. Red Sox have Schilling and maybe A-Rod, and the Yankees lost Pettitte and maybe Sheffield. Unbelievable.

Sox already had a chance before ARod. Remeber last years offence? Ok now add Schilling + a Bullpen that doesnt suck.

I agree with that, yea A-Rod would be a great addition. But Normar is not a bad player, he would be one of the best players on any other team. I just suggest the Bo-Sox get a bullpen...and then maybe try to get A-Rod...again...
