I'm interested in getting a tablet PC for work. The one that seems to keep coming up in reviews, discussions, etc. is the HP Compaq TC1100.

So, does anyone have any experience with the model, both good or bad?

TIA

HP = Crap

The toshiba table is decent, it is the best one I have used but still felt a little cheap...

the compaqs are good light machines for office apps - the fact you can completely remove the keyboard means its great for portability (3lbs instead of 4.5). performance is compaq's biggest prob though - poor video card and processor means any heavy duty apps are just not viable.

toshiba's m200 is a much higher spec but much heavier (4.7lbs) and has lots of functionality, they do look a bit cheap but by all accounts are quite reliable (maybe thats cuz they look old in the first place?!)

Don't listen to this guy, the TC1100 is a great tablet. The toshiba m200 is nice as well, it all depends whether you want a convertible or slate. Have a look at http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com for some more info. Their forums are full of good info and user experiences.

Thanks Clonk!

The forums on that site are nice since they break it out by manufacture, no digging to try and find info. After talking to the HP sales rep, I will probably order one for a 30 day trial period since they do not have any to send out for a demo. One thing that is nice, since I work for a University, I'm able to throw in a couple more things and spend the same amount of money, no more than $2500.00.

Wow, that is a ton of money for a computer these days!!

Go for the HP TC1100, I'd tested almost every TPC out in the market; so far is the best slate TPC is cost effective, has very good battery life and is full of nice features.

I've got a TC1100 and use it every day to take notes for all my classes in college.

In addition, I can play Condition Zero on it and get a pretty steady 50 fps with 1024x768 res. It looks really nice! I was amazed at how good the graphics were on it. Some apps are a little slow to load like Paint shop pro 8. But maybe that's just slow.

Bottom Line. I love mine and don't regret the purchase, but I built a new desktop PC for Doom 3 and HL2.
