its not real.. the leatherface character is very loosely based on a real person.. hold on i've got a link about the guy they based it on
loosely loosely based off of a killer that did some of the same things but the movie itself is not real! but a great movie either way. i cant remember off hand the site i was looking about it but i willl try and find it!

It is not real. Just like the movie Fargo, it was advertized as "based on real events" but it is more for "making more bucks by attracting more people to watch"
Now, if leather face truly exists, I think it is very pathetic that he is still that famous for all the wrongdoings he has done to other victims.
Yes that is the link i was just looking for!! u got to it before me

idk i almost sharted my self when i saw that movie tonight jakob
The new version with Jessica Beil has nothing on the original. As far as movies they try to play off as being real to get the buzz going....think back to the Blair Witch project. My brother spent 2 hours proving to me it was real...took me 3 clicks to prove him wrong.

Wow, interesting read. Thanks for that CatnipOligarthy.
Yeah I had to do my research after seeing that movie, I just couldnt believe someone like that could be out there, and thankheavens their not.
Gein has been the basis for several such movies from leatherface, to Silence of the lambs, and one other movie I cant think of he was heavily the basis for, ahwell cant have been too good.
This movie was pretty awesome but

I read somewhere that Psycho was loosely based off of it. Something to do with the mother or something, but I'm drawing a blank right now.

thats correct. TCM, Silence of the Lambs (Buffalo Bill, not Hannibal Lecter), and Psycho.. were all based roughly on this guy
yeah pyscho thats it, and yeah I shoulda clarified the silence of the lambs thing
good stuff, ive been racking my brains trying to think of the other movie, well thats done
as others have mentioned, certain things are based upon the life/acts of ed gein, but the leatherface character was inspired by a med student who used a cadaver's face as a halloween mask - i can't find a link for that one right now, but there's the story.
i like how the movie starts off with "these events happened in so-and-so county, texas, 1973" - of course they did, because that's when they were filming the movie

Blair Witch sound familiar
Knowing Hollywood, when they base a movie on someone or something, it is always exaggerated to the maximum. But then again, that's entertainment! LOL
I really want to see the film, but im under 18 and my dad wont rent it out because my brother dosent like horrors.

It was a horrible movie. Not scary and not really gory. A little unbelievable at times. All in all I'm glad I didn't pay to see this at the theatre.
