a new emulator called PearPC seems to be able to run OS X on x86 machines:

Wow. This will be nice if it's real

Due to the nature of emulation, PearPC is quite slow (the client will run about 500 times slower than the host)
excellent feature..
Damn only for linux

I ripped an ISO of my OS 10.2 CD-1 with discdump and it didn't want to boot from it, so I'm going to try OS 9.2

That's what we're all trying to figure out.
No luck on the 10.2 or 9.2 CD's that I ripped using DiscDump. I'll try dumping them from Linux sometime tomorrow and see if that works.

There is no difference in running it on Linux and Windows. Follow the documentation.
please sum1 soon post some success stories... I'm dying to try this but don't wanna waste any time if it simply wont work.

... I think this is the real deal. I can get it to boot from a 10.2 CD, but it errors out.
Download Gemulator Explorer at
http://www.emulators.com/download.htm, and run it. Select your CD-ROM with the MacOS X cd in it, then choose File > Create Image File From Physical Disc.
After that, just configure the PearPC config file accordingly to whatever you named the image file (I used macosx.img).

Well considering that you would need AT LEAST a 300mhz G3 to run OSX, and it emulates about 500 times slower, you would need about a 150GHZ computer

Huh?
PPC and x86 are completely different ISAs. What "special function" are you talking about?

I once heard something about a 'special function' that isn't in the x86 instruction set.

It's still version 0.1 of the emulator. Give it some time, sooner or later it will run MacOSX just like you can run Red Hat in VMWare for example.

'special function' is a void for the real difference he doesn't actually realize...

Considering many Mac users themselves find OS X (Aqua) slow... I've only found OS X to seem rather snappy on my current computer... Emulating what is touted 'the most advanced OS on the market', seems a little pointless, in light of the system overheads it *really* carries.

There is no way to convert DMG to ISO. DMG is an Apple proprietary image format.
I'm affraid your illegal copy will not work.
