is it capable of smoothly displaying the Genie effect yet?
Orson
I hope it will be very soon possible to make a connection to the internet.
Jason
Just think of the possiblities of this program once it matures more, you will never need to buy Apple hardware again to run their OS !!!!
Detroit
1) genie effect runs real well, but not butter smooth yet smile.gif (It runs only butter smooth when i used the itunes "zoom" mode)
2) connection to the net will be very later
3) When time passes, it hope to get to 1/10 of cpu speed. It wont be perfect but usable smile.gif right now, its at probably 1/39

i say 5-6 months, and we got OSX running at 100% speed

Could this bring the end of Apple or at least cheaper hardware ?
gamestargrinder
ok i just tried changing the ram to 10000000 but it still shows 128 mb of ram
And
My clock is now moving at 15 seconds.
The minutes r changing every 15 seconds!!!!!!!!!

unless u are implying that we have an x86 version of MAC OSX, I don't think any emulator can emulate at 100% of your CPU, i mean, just look at Virtual PC, how long that's been out especially on x86 computers, yet still not even close.
Jason
The speed of PC's keeps increasing so we will get to a point where it is an acceptable speed to use properly.

That doesnt work
Im in step 5 and I cant see what the step said: "you should see the main startup screen, with just the .iso "cdrom" listed as bootable"

Yes, on my system at least.
phalanx126
KoL, i don't know if this will help, but when I was trying to install 10.2, it simply would not work unless i specified where the video.x files was located....i'm not sure why, but it worked after that

I tested the lastest official release (0.1.2) in Longhorn build 4074, and it was really slow. The cmd windows showed up first, but the main screen didn't even show up for a minute. (It's usually instant on XP). After that, everything seemed to slow down exponentially. I couldn't get to the Mac OSX boot screen without turning it off from boredom.

I'm not complaining, just reporting the results of my limited tests. wink.gif

one of my friends, who loves macs, and has been using for longer then i know. said that they may have made the time a lot quicker on purpose. OS X's visual effect are time based, so on a fast computer the effects look good in normal time. But in order to make the effects look like right on a machine that is as slow as PearPC they sped the time up.

Don't know if it's true or not, but it makes sense.

Quick heads up, for those having trouble fiddling with memory settings, try PearGUI. Makes a config file in an easy-to-use GUI.

I use PearPeeler...er where the link for it brb.
Acezo
Yup, PearPeeler's nice too...btw, program's in English wink.gif

EDIT: Just a quick question, with the .2pre version of PearPC, I get artifacts ("left-behind" clips of moved windows and such). Is my refresh too low? I have it set to 15 and it was butter smooth under 1.1/1.2 shifty.gif

What's the best optimisation for the Athlon64? Because it has SSE2 which is presumably what the P4 build is optimised for.

You get this using the gcc compilers:

Quote - GCC Documentation
-march=cpu-type

pentium4
Intel Pentium4 CPU with MMX, SSE and SSE2 instruction set support.

athlon-4, athlon-xp, athlon-mp
Improved AMD Athlon CPU with MMX, 3dNOW!, enhanced 3dNOW! and full SSE instruction set support.

k8, opteron, athlon64, athlon-fx
AMD K8 core based CPUs with x86-64 instruction set support. (This supersets MMX, SSE, SSE2, 3dNOW!, enhanced 3dNOW! and 64-bit instruction set extensions.)

I haven't tried to compile it myself foy my Athlon64 yet. I will probably have time to do that some day this week.
Post-It Note
Genie effect: (It's pretty slow. It really is just Frame 1: In the dock, Frame 2: Warped window, Frame 3: Normal window.)

Weird, my genie effect is really smooth. it's slower then a real apple, but not that bad.

I have been using PearPC since the first public release now and I am still very happy with it.
Now, after having installed Panther, I tried to install Mandrake Linux 9.1 PPC - twice, without success.

Everything runs well up to the point, the machine needs to be rebooted at the end of the installation. After reboot, PearPC keeps telling me there's no bootable partition and I have tried every single partition available (in 'select' mode).
I have partitioned the 6GB hard disk image into two partitions under Panther. The first 3GB I left empty (free space) and the second was partitioned as HFS Extended. Then, I began installing Mandrake and let it partition automatically. There was no obvious problem during the installation. So this leads me to the question: What do I have to do in order to be able boot Mandrake Linux?
Any help would be appreciated.
BTW, I also get these artifacts with the latest trunk 0.2pre version (optimized for P4).

can anyone run the expose effects smoothly?
gamestargrinder
i can run expose pretty smoothly

but again my time is really fast
1 minute = 15 seconds
do u thing it has something do do with the redraw rate at 45ms

And again how do i take a dmg and make it iso. Ive tried winiso, nero and just changing the extention none work.
Has anyone done it before?
gamestargrinder
and is there printer support yet, i got a usb hp printer
cpu killer
Huh, the theme files are .dmg's , I try putting them in an iso file and than setting the ISO file as a mounted CDROM drive and yet , it wont wont..any idea?

Just try to mount it again, mine didn't work the first time either. Also, you might need shapeshifter for some themes.

Hehe - quicktime smile.gif Movie jumps alot, like its being sped up - must be some problem with PearPC refesh rate, as its probly the same that casues the 1 min = 15 secs prob smile.gif.

Yep, it's real! The latest nightly is mighty fast.
gamestargrinder
yes its real and that makes sense about the refresh rate i still wish there was a way to convert dmg to iso
amr_01
i can run genie effects pretty smoothly, i have my redraw at 50.

also, on that dmg thing. i got those errors too, and made the mistake of mounting anyway...and it really messed things up, i couldn't boot osx at all, hard to reinstall.

Copy the contents of the "CD" to your "hard drive", then try installing from there. I noticed this too...things don't like to install from the "CD".

WillVG, what exactly is this dmg you're trying to convert to iso, and what're trying to do with it?
