Dang that is nice.
Alot better than the batch file and config file I am using now lmao.
Hmm also makes me wonder will you be able to load your current config file into it? I would hate to have to figure out what all I got going.

tek you are my hero, sorta. im installing it right now using the old fashioned way. however, i would just love it if it was more user friendly.

quick question to help my install go faster, do i need to check my install disk during the install?

No, but that means that you downloaded the leaked ADC build that isn't quite the final build of panther.

How do i set the refresh rate and full screen and also how come when i set it to 1024x768 half of the dock gets cut off
eaglebtc
^^^^^
SilentPrey, use a little common sense here. I am assuming your current screen resolution is 1024x768, and that you're not running Full-Screen. You need to get the proper build of PearPC to do this---read the thread. When you're not in FS mode, the PearPC window itself has a title bar and a task bar that isn't used for anything unless you are using a CD. The reason the dock gets cut off at the bottom of the screen is because the PearPC window is actually about 800 pixels tall (with these additions). That's why it won't fit on your screen.

I want to make a bootable HD. But I got a problems.

It's now running well. I'm going to be writing some wizards, and other things to make this app "user friendly". My goal: a 4 year old should be able to use PearPC. The ugly dos console with the debug information is now in the "Session Log" area of the VM's page. I currently can't embed the PearPC GUI window in my application due to the way PearPC works :-P (I'm going to send the dev's an email, hopefully we can work on this).

Here is the latest screenie, and I'm also going to put this on the PearPC Developer's Wiki.

Wow!!! ohmy.gif This is very impressive!!

Well, lets just say it has been 11 hours since I started installing it on my Pentium III 733 Mhz 512 Mb system.. It is still installing... So just you know how slow it is.

Can't be bothered to read 136 pages of posts spanning over a week at all hours of the day? That is true. However, only ignorance could cause you to make a comment like that. Hypothetically, even if only business owners supported Bush, do you think that none of them can be bothered to read? No, they work their butts off reading more than you probably even want to think about reading. Expand that support base to everybody else who supports Bush, and I think that you'll find that most people who support Bush do indeed read a lot.

why dont you spend the extra 10 minutes you used to post your tripe to read the thread?

ask your "ministry of truth" to read this thread for you!

Quick question guys, I'm using a router on my network at home, and I wanna have internet support in pearPC (mac osx 10.3) but whenever i go to enable internet connection sharing, it yells at me that 192.168.0.1 is already being used (which it is, by my router as the gateway) -- so I change the IP of my router to 192.168.0.2, and change the DHCP start and end (since you have to because the routers IP cant be in between the start and end IP's) so I went 192.168.0.3 - 192.168.0.51, but windows still yells at me because it cant use 192.168.0.1 since I started the DHCP list after that one. I can't assign static IP's on my network (laziness and pure unability cripple me to do so) and I can't run the internet directly into my computer (family would freak out laugh.gif) any suggestions?

Hopefully I will have a build out by tomorrow. I don't know how many Wizards will be included in the begining, and it's still minorly* buggy.

*The only bug I have right now: the Session Log output does not autoscroll when the app looses its focus (like, when your In the PearPC Window).

Which way do you think it should work.. have a PearPC folder under the app's folder and use PearPC from there, or do you want to be able to select where do use PearPC? If you want to select the folder, do you want that to be a application-wide setting, or a VM Config specific setting?

Blah, blah, blah ;-). Thanks for saying nice things about the app.. they make me wanna code more biggrin.gif.

Release plan for PearPCFrontend:
Beta 1: Tomorrow (around 6-7pm EST) - Will work as seen in the shots, and won't have many wizards and help
Beta 2: Hopefully by Friday - Will have mannny more Wizards
Beta 3: 2 Weeks - Most (if not all) features and documentation will be done. This will be one of those "lets find all the bugs before we call it final" releases.
RTW v1: 2 Weeks + A few days ;-)

Hi I just registered. I just started using PearPC. I got networking working. But I am having trouble with full screen. I have the latest nightly build (5/30) and I put in fs_refresh_rate = 60 in the config file....
when I try to load ppc it says that fs_refresh_rate is an unknown identifier. Any ideas?

Very cool .. cant wait to try your app out...

Heres a question for ya .. what are you doing for empty HD images ?

Are you just asking the user to give the path for the HD image or your app makes the HD image for them ?

Coz I just made this app using the python script from main pearpc site.
Try it out and let me know what u think .. It works pretty good .. you just need one click and it will make a HD image for ya smile.gif (the image file will be saved in the same folder of the program)

Heres a SS and link for the program.

I was planning on making a "Create a hard disk image" wizard. "Easy so a child can use it" means everything is right there for the user to do :-P.

What is your app written in? Sharing the source would be cool :-).

Do you have a guide for expanding the size of your HD image from within OS X? I know it can be done but don't want to do it until I know how for sure.

well you could just make a bigger HD image ( using my app ofcourse tongue.gif ) ..mount it as a slave drive ..
then use corbon copy cloner and clone your existing HD to that empty HD. When you are done ..just boot pearpc using that new HD image and delete the old one.

Good news is coming...

Enhanced PearPC 0.2pre

A new enhanced build of PearPC has been programmed by nilss. The new main feature is SDL support, which gives you nice speed enhancement.

According to the developer, his build only needs 2 mins 20 secs, compared to 2 mins 55 secs with the CVS build on his 1 GHz CPU. So it's 35 seconds faster than the normal version.

Full list of the new features and advantages:

SDL: Faster!
SDL: Different video targets (like directfb, x11, and aalib)
Fullscreen toggle (F12)
Mousegrab (SHIFT+ F9)
Change redraw timings on the fly (F10 -1msec; F11 +1msec)

Right now it is only available as source, but I am sure binaries will pop up soon. You can tell me of course, if you know where to find one.

nilss is available via our chat room and in the forums.

I know this a pretty ridiculous question at this point but I feel like asking it anyway.

Is it or will it eventually be possible to get an iPod to work with iTunes using Pear PC?
Huy
Hey all, I'm having trouble installing Panther. I've tried about 5 times now, and each time, it has failed. I have tried using JITC and non-JITC builds, (0.2pre), among various other nightly builds (P4 optimised & No-Arch-Win32-R2). I am able to start the installation however it fails after a few hours, seen in the attached screen. I've played around with 128, 256 and higher (up to 512MB) of ram in my config, changed resolutions, redraw rates, installed openVPN, disabled NICs (both the old one and the new realtek one in the config), used different 3GB and 6GB images (at different locations, on different drives), everything!

What I need to ask:
- which build should I use on a P4, because the nightly builds don't work for me?
- which pre-formatted images is everyone using? filenames?
- any other information.

Not sure what else is there to do, to get this thing working. huh.gif

Enhanced PearPC 0.2pre

Can someone please help me compile this in Cygwin? For some reason, the compiler does not see "install-sh" but it is clearly sitting in the folder.

I unpacked the tarball -- within Cygwin itself -- using "tar -xvzf pearpc-0.2.tar.bz2" . The files appear to be there, but according to Windows they are "shortcuts" -- links that actually point somewhere else.

Why are these files "missing" ?

First, Firewire has to actually be emulated in the operating system. Right now, the only external connection is "USB" but it can't do anything. Firewire is probably a ways off. Once Firewire works inside the Virtual Mac, it must then be connected to the host computer's ieee1394 interface.

Before the SDL version can be compiled for win32, a part of it has to be re-written. It is being done, but it is going to take some time.

I doubt it will EVER be fast enough for your laptop. Straight x86 processor emulation isn't at a 1:1 speed to your processor... so emulating a different architecture, will always be a slower (I'd be suprised if we got it to 1/10 of the x86 processor speed).

Currently many PearPC functions are all handled on the processor. As PearPC progresses, functions such as the video display will be utilizing the graphics card; taking away much needed processing time. A 350mhz laptop can by no means have even a crappy video card for today's standards (it would be "sub-crappy" :-P). Also, your disk interface is probably ATA33 (or even slower), and coupled with the slow processor, 33mb/s max burst of HD transfer is pretty poor!

I don't want to dash your hopes and dreams :-P, just want to tell you that you might wait a lifetime no.gif

How fast would OSX run using PPC on my machine, specs below? Would it be comprable to a PII, PIII, running Windows XP?

Also, I know this has been asked before, and I think the answer is yes but, can I allocate 512MB od memory towards the config? Will this help performance? Is there any reason not to?

It should run quite well on your machine.

I believe you can give it 512 MB RAM without any trouble, you just have to figure out the config files first.
