i see people talking about directx sdl? what is it and what are the differences

I think it uses directx APIs some way or another .. I didn't see any difference in performance though.

I think I may be slightly retarded...how do you turn on fullscreen? confused.gif I'm using the Richard Goodwin Athlon XP optimized nightly build. I have went back and read other pages so I don't need the "use the search button" speech tongue.gif

*edit* I found on another PearPC page that the fullscreen toggle is F12, but it doesn't go fullscreen for me, it just lets me use the OS X cursor rather than the one in Windows confused.gif

Unless something has changed, the nightly non-sdl builds do not support full screen yet, only networking.

I'm having a problem copying files from my network drive to the Mac. I'm using Panther 10.3.4 with the bridging enabled in Windows. I can surf the net on the Mac, so I know everything is configured correctly.

I have found that it is works best to use FTP. In the sharing prefrence panel on the Mac VM, enable FTP sharing, then set a fold on the mac VM. In windows, go to "Network places" and add a network place. Type in "ftp://username:password@mac.ip.address" and then it will create a short cut to the Mac FTP share. I find the ftp much more reliable than the normal shares.

I have been able to transfer 100's of mb back and forth this way.

BTW,

can you name some FTP clients for Mac or is there already something integrated in OS X?
Another question: Is there something I have to respect when updating to 10.3.4 so my network will still work afterwards? I mostly use the latest SDL and the DirectX builds.

Does anyone know what's wrong? I'm using this guide: http://emon.aaronx.com/pearpc.html.

Could it possibly be my image? I converted it from .CDR to .BIN to .ISO, but the size of the image matches the guide's almost exactly.

I don't use an FTP client in OS X, I do all the FTPing from the windows side. If I need to get something out of Pearpc, I put it in the shared folder and pull it from the PC side.

After installing Mac OSX how do you run it again? I tried putting ppc ppccfg.osx in the command promp but then it just runs the installation again.

hmm .. boot off the install CD (CD 1) and run disk utility. See if it finds any drive .. if it does then run "Repair disk" on it.

Why dont you create an .iso image straight from your Mac OS X CD/DVD?
Then you could be sure that the image is valid! wink.gif

My "Add a network place" function, doesn't work. When I start it, it searches infinitely, without finding anything. This is very odd.

But shouldn't it also work, the other way round, making my host PC a FTP server, so I could access the files from my Mac VM?

Does any of you know, if there's a freeware FTP client for Mac OS X out there?

OMG! I just figured out a way to make applications load MUCH faster!

Just set the dock to auto-hide. Apparently those little bounces take up a LOT of CPU time. It used to take programs like Thoth and Fetch over 30 seconds to start. Now they load in just 5 seconds or less.

Also, I think the long term implication for this is that pearPC will get a HUGE speed boost if it can figure out how to directly access the graphics card for drawing objects on screen.
jkabaseball
it doesn't recognize a HD, i've tried 6 and 3, i think i need darwin. I downloaded it but its a .gz I can't turn it into a iso, i managed but its not bootable. I need some help.

Yes, it was the Panther image I was using... reripped and it works like a charm now.

Since then, I've updated 1.3 -> 1.3.4 and now networking no longer works sad.gif
eaglebtc
My setup: Panther 10.3.4, Windows XP Host, Ethernet Bridge.

I have had no luck getting file sharing to work between mac & windows, no matter which platform is sharing files. FTP is hardly functional; LIST-ing works, but as soon as I start transferring files, things just stop cold.

Any ideas?

ok, i got it installed on to the virtual hd, but how do i boot from it. I put a 0 so theres no CD, but it tells me that theres bot bootable drive.

follow these steps ..

Step 4: A command line prompt will appear. Run command "pdisk" (with out the " ")

I don't get it. when i load it up ithere is no command prompt, just the choice of #'s.

There's something else you gotta change in the config file, look for this line:

prom_env_machargs = ""

Put -s in between the quotes and you'll get the command prompt. I was in the same situation you were too haha tongue.gif When you're done doing all the steps in the boot procedure, change that back to just "" and it should boot.

Hello!
I just got my new computer together and PearPC is off the wall! It boots in about 20-30 seconds to the desktop! I can minimize and open stuff great, and I got networking together in about a minute and a half!

Phalanx: It's very much alive and active. Infact, soemone has Alvitec enabled without GUI artefacts (meaning we will see big speed increases and Alvitec in the next release, hopefully). Check below for screenshots:

Theres a new build of PearPC SDL with the new clock! The bouncing, progress bar and cursors animations are now correct!!
The new SDL build is from the 0.3pre cvs! "ppc.pre03.SDL.win32newclock.exe"
I also noticed a speed improvement when loading apps. smile.gif

You can get it here :

Thanks alot for that, the build is FAST! A very nice improvement i would say, not perfect but certainly very nice.

BTW there are some windows/osx mouse issues with this, the f12 mouse thing doesnt work. All you do is put your mouse over the program and it will start working in osx! But sometimes the allignment is totally wrong and you cant control it. Any fixes for this??
