My machine was stuck installing OS X Server for 14 hours so I just stopped the installation and shut the whole thing down. I'll try installing regular Panther tonight.

Ataxy: I got the same thing. It is because your installed OS X is not bootable. You have to make it bootable, but i can't figure out how... cry.gif

Pilsbury: I love your sense of humor, but u're off topic.

You cannot deny the massive amounts of piracy occuring in this thread. OS X is NOT freeware and let's face it. If you:

a) download it from bittorrent, that is not legal
b) borrow it from a friend, that is not legal

Having read this thread, the majority of people interested and actually commenting DO NOT OWN A MAC, so they obviously are STEALING the OS.

That is illegal. Do not discuss piracy, such as borrowing a copy of Windows XP or Mac OS X from a friend or you will have to be reported to the proper authorities.

What a bunch of choirboys in here.... get over yourself and just let people play with it.... jesus...
Even if they get it working they can't do sh*t with it, so I don't see the problem here.

I will get my hands on the panther disc's, and then try to install that smile.gif

We do not wish to hear about your piracy. Downloading or borrowing OS X is just as illegal as doing so to Windows XP. DO NOT DISCUSS THAT HERE.

After you install panther, can you boot it again? How u boot it?

Still waiting for my panther CD. unsure.gif

Don't you mean CD's? There are three, pirateboy.

God damn people, get back on topic and stop the petty bickering.

I'm headed over to my friend's house to steal his OS 10.3 CD's for a few hours. Hopefully I can make it as far as the installer like other people have. =)

While I appreciate all the help you have given, including your PearPC configuration file, please do not discuss piracy. sad.gif

Conspiracy theory du jour:

I could have sworn last night the Darwin download came as an ISO file -- it appears to be an .iso.gz file now.
Did Apple get wise to this and pull a switcheroo on the ISO file available for download?

-A-

.gz is a compression format. There is no conspiracy. Just decompress it. huh.gif

No. I would expect them not to break the law.

Ehem... I'd better deactivate the other software too... This thing is now installing the programs imovie, iphoto... so i think, you cannot work with this apps, so why I'm installing them? unsure.gif wink.gif

I have no interest in post counts. How god damned childish. Honestly. IT'S AN INTERNET FORUM. I came here, read 15 pages of comments, and replied to the ones that impacted me.
ataxy
its just that i think your message got true so lets just go back on track with the basic subject of the thread

Allow me to clear something up here. We couldn't careless as to whether you have a pirated or a legit copy of OSX CDs. We will start caring when you start sharing *how* you get one. Now listen carefully, when I said "how" I meant, people posting links, clues, or whatever in that fashion.

The "hey, I got a copy from a friend!" comment is fine in my book as long as it stops there.

Is there any possibility to stop the installation of the additional software (disc two) whitout damage the installation?

Just rename it to *.iso and set it up as the CD Image in your config file and you'll be set.

I did when it rebooted and asked me for the second CD, cuz for some reason the change cd button doesn not work for me, and it worked fine.
KlyX
Hmm... I thought it... So I rebooted while installing disc two but then, when it asked for disc two, I can't click on 'Cancel', so I had to change the imag file into the image of the second disc.

You're right, the Change-Button didn't work too on my computer...

Anyone else had OSX not booting up after being installed? I've tried various combinations (partitioning in Darwin, OSX, etc) but it still doesnt work (5th install in progress now)

VolrathXP had mentioned that the key to installing 10.2 was to turn off verbose mode... One thing I might add is that it also has something to do with the RAM configuration... I have 512MB of physical RAM and I had set PearPC to 384MB, it wouldn't install 10.2, it just got hung up after a circle with a line thru it, but I changed the RAM for PearPC back to the default, and I am installing 10.2 right now... I think it was Jackalo that said he installed 10.2 with the RAM set for 512, but he has 1.5 GB of physical RAM... maybe the key is 2:1 ration of physical to emulated RAM?

Just a thought... I am going to try and set my emulated RAM to 256 and see if I can do that and have 10.2 install.

I'm wondering how you get this without PearPC hang up.
What did you change in teh config file? Could you post the part of it, which belongs to the memory?
Thanks

weird i dont know why i got it to install with my mem set to 512mb but i had to switch it back to default to boot after the installation
KlyX
Hm, why did you install Darwin? Darwin is only needed for build the partition and format this, so OS-X can boot from it later.
My Installation looks like working... yes, it dures veery long, but it works.

So I calculate the speed of the virtual processor... If I say, my installation is about 7 hrs and a normal installation is about 30 minutes, so this would be a average processor speed of 107,5 MHz.

[noob] How do i get darwin to work..i've logged in as root. but now what? is says "localhost:~ root", is that it? huh.gif [/noob]

@roob: You don't have to install Darwin completely an log-in. Darwin is only for the partitioning. So there is an overview under 'documentations' on the PearPC Site.

#
# Main memory (default 128 MiB)
# must be >= 64 MiB
#
memory_size=0x08000000

If you use the calculator that is in XP set it for the Scientific view... Take the amount of RAM that you want to emulate and multiply it by 1048576 (1024x1024) and then hit the "Hex" radio button, it will give you a hexidecimal equivelant for the ammount of RAM (in bytes)

eg: 256x1048576=268435456 (hex=10000000 or 0x10000000)
Betaz
You don't have to use Darwin at all. When you get to the page in the install that shows you having no disks, pull down the menu and go to the Disk Utility.

As for that JITC Error about the page-table. That is a memory issue, though I'm not sure exactly what causes it yet. I had my system setup to run on 512 MB of ram, and it wouldnt work, and after a lot of working I figured out that that was the problem. I commeneted out my memory line (making it default to 128) and it started up just fine. I assume it will be addressed in later builds.
KlyX
So it is... If I delete the # so it would not work... otherwise: no problem
