Dude... Why do you feel you have to be such a busy-body, and care about everyone who dosnt have a legal copy of osx...

It annoys me that people think it's OK to steal OS X, and how casual they are about it. ie: "Now to 'aquire' a copy of Panther. TEE HEE..." That sort of attitude.

But I don't have to care. A moderator spoke up.

What setting do you use with disk ulity to set up the HD?
KlyX
I think, this is what you need:
http://pearpc.sourceforge.net/installdarwin.html

<slightlyofftopic>
I'm against pirating, but this is just for experimenting. Brush it off.
</slightlyofftopic>

Anyway, the instructions on the main PearPC site are very, VERY vague. When I first read it, I thought you NEEDED Mandrake to run this thing. I don't know if it's the poor English, or a poor translation, but I was thinking about just writing a real down-to-earth page for this project and giving it to them.

Is that the only way to do it?

you cannot set up the disk via disk utility?
CyBeRiA
ok, I have Darwin installed (which I just realized wasn't necessary)...

My OSX cd image is a .toast file... but ppc doesn't seem to be able to boot it. it doesn't give correct partitions (ie, it only shows 3 partitions on the disk). Do I need to convert it to a regular iso or something? How would I do that on my PC (I'm at work so I don't have my Mac with me)?

You actually got it to run something at the desktop? I hadn't heard a report of the desktop being "functional". Cool!

As far as RAM: I had already posted this:

#
# Main memory (default 128 MiB)
# must be >= 64 MiB
#
memory_size=0x08000000

If you use the calculator that is in XP set it for the Scientific view... Take the amount of RAM that you want to emulate and multiply it by 1048576 (1024x1024) and then hit the "Hex" radio button, it will give you a hexidecimal equivelant for the ammount of RAM (in bytes)

eg: 256x1048576=268435456 (hex=10000000 or 0x10000000)

Hmm, somehow, this does not work here I entered 0x15E00000 (350 MB RAM) and get the message after a minute: Cannot read page table. Is there a configuration, which will work good?
KlyX
There is another problem: Adter booting, this thing here appears: .
So far so good... But now, If I work with the mouse the following actions werde done:

- Closes the window
- Bar on the top goes away
- Bar reappears
- Window reappears
- Da Capo (another round... and anothher).

Where is the problem??

Here is an Installations Doku for Germans. It Works! wink.gif

Hi Stefan...

Thanks for the link... You just have to know... KlyX = Geiser (Chip.de) wink.gif
so, my Problems are my Problems... hope there are some solutions somewhere.

So I have no chance to do something with OS X... (see post below).
And I don't know, how to get it work...
So the RAM Config doesn't work...
SoapyHamHocks
sanderg14 give me a link somewhere to get morphos and ill try it out.
pimpshiznid
Hey, I dunno if this has been posted, but Kevin Rose (from the Screensavers) got it running. He posted all his files and everything in his blog here.

Including mentioning Neowin, so maybe he is a lurker around here after all...
sanderg14
www.morphOs.net

but where you can download , i don't know , look by google
CyBeRiA
well, here's where i am right now...

it's running surprisingly fast. thank god for dual cpus (even though they're only 1.4GHz)

I set the processor affinity for ppc.exe to only use cpu1...leaving my other processor (cpu0) free to handle everything else, and have cpu1 focus on ppc
CyBeRiA
damn...is that 1024x768? ugh, i may have uploaded the wrong copy...
Starman
I tried installing server and it stalled. Just a heads up.

Mike
CyBeRiA
at what point does it stall?
XiXora
fast? want to try to give us a video representation of that? biggrin.gif

oh also install the rest and how mant mhz does it say? 10? smile.gif
CyBeRiA
well, it's now finished checking the volume and is working on the base install .... so about 12 minutes to go through the screens, select my custom install (got rid of the other language support and all the printer stuff), check the volume, and get started installing the packages... i dunno if that's fast or not
KlyX
No one a solutions for my problems in my last post?

Darn! laugh.gif *sigh* Too bad it wasn't real! I want OSX... but Mac's are expensive. pinch.gif

You can pick up a Mac capable of running OS X on eBay for less than $300. Sure, it won't be extremely fast, but it will run OK.
CyBeRiA
here's my config file. i switched the ram to 256 (but i haven't restarted ppc to see if it worked)

Yay that's cool! I'm going to check that out tonight wink.gif

It looks like Finder doesn't work... I have the same problem as "KlyX". I have tried some changes on my config file but no results. You can get to System Preferences by clicking on Date and Time when the bar is "on"... and after that you can click and open "about... System Profiler".
KlyX
hmm... so I'm thinking about reinstall without IE and this tools... if this works?
zkorpio
Anyone have tried the (F11) "compose key sequence"... ? to quit or open apps...?
just wondering
KlyX
Hmmm... I can't click to anything whitout problems. can you give a step by step to kill the app?
KlyX
Aha, got into the time and date menu...

This is probably a dumb question, but what does this emulator do about hte Mac BIOS? I know that with old 68k emu's, you'd need a ROM image. How is this handled on newer macs and hte emulator?
Fozzieb
its not emulating a mac, its a power pc
SoapyHamHocks
After I installed OSX I changed the config file from prom_bootmethod = "auto" to prom_bootmethod = "select" and I get the following screen when booting.

I can run iPhoto and iTunes, albeit not fast and can't do much with em but I can definitely move around the desktop and do stuff.

another good tip i found is to set the redraw interval to like 50, it speeds up at least redrawing the screen a bit.
KlyX
hmm, I talked to the programmer and he tells me, that the problem with the Finder is known. And he will fix it for the next release.
