There ya go .. Best Guide For PearPC biggrin.gif

Hi, This is my first post but MacOS might work a little faster if it is set as the default shell instead of explorer.exe. It would run a little faster because instead of there be a shell running on a shell(MacOS's shell running on top of explorer). I am not sure if this will work but can someone try it and find out hte difference. To change the shell:
1. goto start>run and type 'gpedit.msc' without the ' '
2.under user configuration goto Administrative Templates
3.click on system not the + sign.
4.double click on coustom user and change it

if all you going to go is be an ass about warez, then stop downloading warez yourself. its called being a hypocrite

where the **** do you see me saying that i download warez? mad.gif
show me a single post of mine that would make me a hypocrite! mad.gif

neowin has a rule about warez, obey the rules and stfu, otherwise get the **** out of neowin

"Anyone know why I am showing 128mb Ram in the OSX 10.2 System Info?? I am running 512Mb. Anyway to change this to boost performance perhaps??"

Unrealism:
It's a setting in the configuration file.

#
# Main memory (default 128 MiB)
# must be >= 64 MiB
#
#memory_size=0x8000000

it's a hex value. Naturally, 128 written in hex is 0x80. 256 has a value of 0x100, and 512 has the hex value of 0x200. I don't think you'd want to set it to a full 512. But you could gradually increment it (if you have like a million hours) to see how it effects your overall system performance.

I've been unable to get OS X to work at all *sigh*. The Darwin iso image won't unzip (anyone else have this problem?) so I renamed it to darwin-701.iso then fired 'er up huh.gif . It writes all the IO stuff then:
[IO/MACIO] dbdma: read(4) @00000004
[IO/CUDA] <WARNING> keyb reg1

It stops there. Anyone know what that means or how to fix this problem if it is indeed one? Am I just not being patient enough?

Happy Emulating

The darwin image only opened in my Mac after I removed the .gz extention from it. Looks like its not a valid .gz format or something.

And you dont need Darwin to partion the HD image. Follow my guide instead.

hey guys, sorry it took me so long to reply, went to the zoo today! Yippy!! ohmy.gif

Anyway here is my current config file for my Mac OSX v10.2 to work.

Some notes I found having trouble with my install was...

1. Installing Darwin and making my partitions with it. (Use Mac OSX and setup your partitions through that)
2. The Change CD button would not work after the first image install. confused.gif (in your ppccfg.osx config file, change your image that way.)
3. Using the "Select" option in prom_bootmethod (instead of auto, keeps booting the silly osx image)
4. Taking out the "-v" from prom_env_machargs
5. Being very, and I mean very fricken patient!!! LOL biggrin.gif

Ps. I am going to try that Ram setting in hex by the way! Thanks for the tip Josta2317!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I just tried the Ram setting and although it shows different ram now, it does not really seem to do any performance to the emulation. sad.gif

I did try something out of cursoity though that someone might check out and confirm... Open up "Task Manager" in windows and tell ppc.exe to run at realtime by rightclicking. It did not seem to speed the boot process, however... I could be nuts but it seemed to improve how the enviroment overall ran once OSX was running. It is not much but hey... its a gain I think! biggrin.gif

Is it supposed to take more than a half hour on the grey apple screen at the very beginning? (I am following the instructions http://s87840517.onlinehome.us/pearpc.html only with 10.3 not 10.2)

nope it shouldn't .. well where are u at ? did u just start the installation or u r done with that and restarted pearpc ?
drdrew
just started, after being stuck on it for an hour, I aborted and found a 10.3 Harddrive file at emaculation, but it is still loading the grey screen. Not sure what the problem is, I am assuming its something to do with the premade config file I got, but all files are correctly pointed to, and I get no errors...

Thanks,
Drew

Depending on your computer, I've heard some install processes taking overnight.
drdrew
But this is even before the install loads up so to speak. I doubt the gray screen is supposed to take over an hour. I have a 1700+ A-XP with 765 mb RAM. Can't see it being my computer.
KlyX
They grey Screen should stay for 30 seconds or maximum 1 minute an not longer. then is should appear a black screen with console text on it.

lol Ok. Call me an idiot if you want, that's exactly what I am when it comes to this tongue.gif

Anyways. I was wondering, is there a way to install some version of Linux (That will already run on x86) within Windows like PearPC, or do I absolutely have to dual-boot with my current OS? I've been wondering because I really don't want to format or partition anything right now, and I'd like to be able to just tinker with Linux while still using Windows. Is this possible at all or is it just wishful thinking? lol.

eckoman2k1, try virtual pc or vmware. u can install linux with pearpc, but is slow

Hmm... ok here is what I did.

1. installed Darwin.
2. booted the MacOS off the cd (iso image1)
3. after the install completes it reboots pearpc automatically.
4. start pearpc again with this command line ppc ppccfg.osx
5. tell it to boot off of number 2. (hd)
6. osx appears to boot but does nothing with a grey pinwheel and a big crossed out circle.
7. tried to boot back to cd, but all it wants to do is install all over again if I do so.

any ideas what I might be doing wrong??

Have you tried deleting you NVRAM file? Alot of times on a regular mac (especially OS X) you need to reset the nvram (or delete it) I have done this almost every time I have trouble... Just a thought.
unrealism
Its cool jedavis1, I finally got the silly thing working the other night. biggrin.gif

Now if it would only get faster! lol

By the way, can you peeps test my theory in the earlier thread... I opened task manager in windows and told ppc.exe to run in realtime, and it seemed to run a little better on the mac osx desktop!! Not much of a boost but seemed to be a little I think. Did not help with the boot process any though. sad.gif

What the H***?!? What are you talking about warez and crap? The only help you specifically asked me for AFTER you asked ME for warez is to post my config file to you... That was on ,what, Friday? I do have a life other that this and other forums and this ALPHA software!

I don't appreciate this kind of attitude in the least. If you have a specific question aimed at me, ask it. I have gotten this to install with Jaguar on 2 different computers. I will throw in what little I know about it. But please keep your name calling to yourself.

A little confused,

did you try swapig the boot drive in darwin s
et drive 3 - make it drive 2

or did you boot up PPC in selet mode and choose the bootable drive ?
Dazzla
You don't need to download darwin to swap the drive from 3 to 2 to make it bootable. If you have "prom_env_machargs = "-s"" and boot from the CD you'll get dumped at the prompt, from there you can change the partitions. There's a decent guide on eMaculation:

http://www.emaculation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1102

Steps 10-19 refer to making it bootable without Darwin.

i downloaded the 10.3.3 update from apple's site, created an iso with the dmg file on it, copied the dmg file from the cd to the desktop once the mac os was running, and now have mounted the dmg and started the install. i'm thinking the problem is the size of the hard drive image but i'm not sure. anyone know of a way to get around this?
