AD-aware SE and Spybot have worked really well for me. AD-aware SE now downloads updates just like NAV.
I use Ad-Aware SE Professional. Works pretty nice.

That's a lot. Thanks guys.
I've just installed spybot and it brought up (found) IE security issue (from 2002 vulnerability list) EVEN with my XP SP2 installed.
That's really weird, imho.

Spy Sweeper does a better job than Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D, but its not free. for all good and bad removers, check this website:

I recall there being a neowin article about this spyware issue.
It suggested the install of Spybot, Spywareblaster and running Sun Java as opposed to Microsofts' Holey Java runtime.
I also use Adaware, can't be too careful.
Good Luck bashing those bugs,

Ad-aware Professional (there's also a free version), Spybot Search & Destroy, PestPatrol (excellent program for the money) and Spyware Blaster. Nothing gets through. NOTHING.

I use AdawareSE Pro, Spybot & SpySweeper(nice real-time protection). I've found that each will pick up things that the others miss.
