Opera is my favorite.
But I have to agree that IE is the best
ViperAFK

It most certainly isn't, it's an attrocious trainwreck of a rendering engine
I personally enjoy IE, but will probably be switching to Opera soon.
For all of you that complain about security, I've never had any security or related problem (spyware, hax, hijack...) with any browser.
"A browser is only as secure as it's user."EDIT: I'm not switching anymore, unless one of you can convince me to, or give me a really good reason why I should. If you do, then I'll switch for sure! My IE is very compact, simple, and nice (look
here). I've tried various different browsers, and haven't had much problems with any of them. IE is comfortable for me, but if you still feel so inclined to tell me how your browser is so much better than mine, do so, and again.. maybe I'll switch?

I prefer Firefox (90%) but I still use IE (10%) on occasion. Some websites I've been to only accept IE or Netscape browsers.

I disagree with said statement. In IE if you accidentily go into the wrong site you can become infested with malware, viruses, security exploits. Why is this? Because there are many many security risks in it.
Sure, FireFox and Opera is not 100% secure, but nothing is. Point is, they are a helluva lot more secure than IE. So if you one day click the wrong link, nothing will happen.
The best engine is Opera, but certainly not IE. IE still does not know html/css/xhtml properly and it is an insecure browser.

Yah, I don't understand why people fuss over Firefox. Its an okay browser, but Opera is much better. Even some basic features, youve got to install stupid "extension" whereas opera has endless features, all built in!
i hate it when everyone goes "ooooo Firefox".

not quite. its because Opera isn't advertised as much as FF. almost like apple ipods. ppl buy this inferior product because of too much ads. do you see any other mp3 player ads that much? no.

Firefox is the McDonalds of web browsers, there food sucks..but since they advertise so much it sells.
I myself hate firefox, it takes like a minute to load up (I know it can be "tweaked" so it doesn't, but why waste time having to tweak something that should already happen?)
I use Opera all the time and love it, loads pages better than firefox, opens faster, uses less RAM, looks better.
Uh... IE is the McDonalds, btw.
Firefox is like... Burger King or something.

Its so amusing to see that people are discussing web browsers when the original topic is Rendering Engine..
Even after Jamey has pointed out that the thread is not about a browser they still continue
lol@all
Its also sad to see that KHTML got such a small number of votes though it is one of the best and not to say that the first engine which passed ACID2.
But then again its understandable as all are discussing about a browser rather than engine.
For all those ignorant nerds KHTML is the engine for Konqueror and Safari

WebKit passed first, then iCab, then KHTML (or something like that), or possibly Opera passed before KHTML.
And yeah, IE7, Firefox and Opera aren't rendering engines, they are browsers, this thread is about rendering engines, people need to read more.

I use a Gecko based browser (Camino) for 99% of all my browsing.

I am not sure why people think Gecko is so bad on OS X Camino works fine, although I still use Safari.
Because it's slow, much slower than WebKit (due to Gecko's choice of API's on OS X)

Firefox is much faster and reliable than IE.

Gecko is the best rendering engine.
Firefox the best browser.
Not only is firefox better, but if it's missing a feature I can usually find an extension in a couple of minutes to suit my needs. The benefits of having a great extension/plugin community are good

I like a lot Opera, but I also know that Firefox is great, too.
Maybe I'll use Firefox later
Well, your question seems badly formed and bait for FireFox fanboys.
However, even though I don't use FireFox, my vote goes to its engine, since that is specifically what you are asking; it is my experience that it is more compatible, and that it works better with things like Flash (try loading YouTube videos fullscreen in Opera.)

True, but those that mention Opera and IE as 'engines' are just as guilty as well.
The poll should've read:
Trident (IE)
Presto (Opera)
Gecko (Mozilla)
KHTML
+1

That issue has been fixed in Opera 9.20.
Personally, I like Presto (the Opera engine) - its fast and very secure.

On OS X, I find stock installations of Opera 9 to be faster than stock installations of Firefox 2.
If I am stuck with these choices, Gecko, duh...
But WebKit is better I think. I have no idea how it performs on Windows, but on OS X it's fast and displays everything properly.

WTF? how do you mean bloated with adds and anoying things? i really dont get you. you really must hate opera for some reason to say something like that.
I quess if you want complete control for browsing you should use firefox, but opera is far best for easy and simple surfing. And nothing is bloated. firefox is bloated..

Gecko may be the best engine, but I prefer speed when browsing. Therefore, it's Safari for Mac and IE 7 for Windows. I've used Firefox and Opera on both platforms and the "built-in" browsers almost always perform better. Plus, they look the nicest stock

Firefox, Opera, K-Meleon, The World, SeaMonkey, Konqueror, and Internet Explorer 6, each for different reasons. I guess Firefox is the best all around browser, Gecko the best layout engine. A quick rundown of most can be found at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_web_browsers.
The World Browser is out of Asia, the last version I've used is 2.0. Oh, I almost forgot IceWeasle.
