I've installed Ubuntu which is based on debian, this is my first time using a debian (based) system and im very impressed, especially with apt-get, the only thing I havent managed to install with this powerfull command is java, which to be honest is turning into a nightmare. How do I go about installing it?

TIA
Xylene
Try 'apt-get install java-common'

Try 'apt-get install java-common'

Done that, Im trying to install azureus, and it comes up saying j2re1.4 is not installed.

Anyone else got a clue?

Didn't I already answer this?

Try:
CODE
apt-get -t unstable install blackdown-j2re1.4debian

That worked for Azureus for me.

You could also try jamvm. It's supposed to be a really small java virtual machine.

here, try this. It works for me. And the ppl on the ubuntu mailing list have been recommending it.
