i was looking through the startup items in the user prefernce pane, i was just wondering what some of these things are, and what they do....

.DS_Store (ive noticed some files named this on my hard drive too)
N067U_ButtonManager (i asume this has something to do with mac os x's buttons tongue.gif)
N124U_ButtonManager (" ")
Microsoft AU Daemon (microsoft office related ? i had the trial but it ran out)
LCCDDaemon

those Daemon ones freak me, are they demon's in disguise ? tongue.gif

so anyone know what they are ? and what they do ?
frod
a daemon is an application that runs in the background for the sole handling of some type of event. don't be scared by the name, heh.

anyways, i don't have anything in my startup section so i would assume it's safe to delete all of those. i personally deleted the microsoft au daemon and have had no trouble opening office, so i assume it's not needed. i guess for the others it might be for something you installed or use and might affect it. but none of them are being used by os x i imagine.

oh, there is no reason why a .ds_store file should be in your startup. those things just contain information about files.
