It's that time of year again. the playoffs are upon us.
First round begins Tuesday. Here are my picks
Division Series
Minnesota vs New York
Boston vs Anaheim
Los Angeles vs St. Louis
Houston vs Atlanta
League Championship Series
Atlanta vs. St. Louis
Boston vs. Minnesota
World Series
Atlanta over Boston in 7
My spring training pick was Atlanta over Boston in the world series so i'm staying with that again. Sucks that the cubs didnt make it, i would have rather played them than the astros.. the astros scare me a little bit, they are the hottest team coming intot he postseason, and i think that "stomach virus" clemens had today was a bs excuse to save him for the possibility of a one game playoff or for Game 1 of the NLDS. If Atlanta doesnt win it this year, 2nd choice is Boston, and after that, any team that isnt the Yankees.
Atlanta will lose to Houston

Boston over the Twins????? Blasphemy!!!
Pedro chokes in big games
Johan Santana, Future AL Cy Young winner, will prevail!!!!
It's funny how you guys are pushing aside the low budget teams, similar to the way people put aside OSU against Miami in 2002.

I have a question reguarding the playoff 1st round match ups. Why are the Yankees playing the Twins instead of the Angels?
They way I "thought" it worked was : The 3 division winners are seeded 1-3 based on best regular season record, while the wild card team is seeded 4. Then the 1 seed would play the 4 seed and the 2 seed plays the 3 seed. With the EXCEPTION that if both the 1 and 4 seeds are from the same division, then the 1 seed would play the 3 seed and the 2 seed would then play the 4 seed.
This held true for the NL opening round, but not the AL. Am I missing something here?

Anaheim and Minnesota finished with the same record (92-70). Anaheim won the season series 5-4, so they win the tiebreaker and become the 2 seed.

OK, I see where I went wrong, I was looking at the win columns on ESPN.com's
MLB standings page (apparently ignoring the loss column)
and now see that they have the Twins' record wrong, 93-70? that would be 163 games, 1 too many!

Thanks for helping me get it straight!

was mussina the yanks best pitcher? cuz if i was the yanks, i woulda put some no-name in to face santana. no sense in putting your best guy against him, cuz you're guaranteed to lose...

Yes, he was considered the "ace". He didn't pitch too bad, but Santana was too good.
BroChaos
Oct 7 2004, 00:06
yeah, if it was me, i woulda saved my "ace" for game 2. he hasn't lost since the all star break, has he? something like 15-0...
Not to mention he had an ERA below 1.40 for the second half of the season.

god I love the yankees!
it sucks that your team owners aren't willing to invest more in the team and competitively buy players.
p.s. that win tonite was sweet.

god i hate that argument. most owners dont have that kind of money lying around to invest in the first place. most teams have to use this system called the "Minor Leagues".. thats where you have lower level teams in smaller towns associated with your team, basically they train your players to become good major league ballplayers to help your team in the future. but yankees fans wouldnt know anything about that. no matter how many championships they win, they are bought, not earned.

Who is to blame the last 1.5 weeks of failure for the Cubs ? Astros win 36 of last 46 games, thats tight

Well last year they lost by 1 game back. Revenge.
Sosa should do what Dusty baker told. He should act like a leader. Its not his fault last year playoff.
Astros on the way to beat Braves and Cards.

Let's not get out of hand. He tagged up on a fly ball! Oooh! Jones screwed up by not throwing home -- instead he threw it to the first baseman who made a bad throw too. Still the ball got there at the same time Jeter did. I like Derek Jeter, he's a hell of a ball player -- but he's lucky the Twins didn't make that play. (BTW, the Twins deserved to lose and it was really inevitable once New York tied it. See 2003 ALCS Game 7)

C'mon Astros! Go Astros!
