Full Version: W2K SP4, installing IIS. Re-Apply Service Pack?

Quick question. Lets say I have a Windows 2000 Server with SP4. I am going to install IIS, will I need to re-service pack it? I am asking because the W2K CD is going to install the original files, so wouldn't I need to re-install the service pack?

Could I use a W2K Server SP4 disc and be ok?

Thanks,

I doubt it will ask for the Win2k CD. From what I know, it was Win98/ME that required the CD when installing the new components. Win2k/XP already have the components on the hard drive ready to be installed when needed.

it will ask you y2ksp4 cd so I sugest you make a y2ksp4 cd for your self

It shouldn't ask you for a CD since the SP4 cabs have updated versions of the files and it will always look towards the TOC file and find those cabs first. So in short, no...and even if it did, I wouldn't worry about it. You happen to be an NT admin? biggrin.gif

No you dont. Install it, after the install go for windows update.

When you install a service pack, Windows stores the changed files in %windir%\servicepackfiles and it will retrieve any needed files from there. However, any hotfixes you have installed may need reinstalled. Check Windows Update and feel free to run qfecheck to make sure the hotfixes are intact.
