Hey,

I just got my 200GB SATA Seagate harddrive today and I want to do a fresh install of Windows XP on it. I was wondering how you install the SATA driver without a floppy drive? Anyway to do it?

Thanks.

You create a slipstreamed XP installation CD. There was an article in MaximumPC about it a couple of months back. Here's a link to get you started.. Also try googling 'XP slipstream SATA'
illmonkey
if you dont want to slipstream....

...when the cd loads (blue screen appears) it says at the bottom "Press F6 for drivers" (or similar)

Press F6 then, you will need the drivers for the sata controller on a Floppy.

Use an already installed OS to access the Asus driver dowloads, and get the SATA drivers. Save the driver to CD or DVD or something. The Mobo should've come with a SATA driver...

You don't need any drivers to install XP on SATA HD.
Well, I guess it depends on how old your mobo is and what's the XP version.
I've just installed xp(with sp2) on brand new machine,
Abit AG8-V LG775,160GB WD without loading any sata drivers. I believe that XP,
maybe SP1 and later have necessary driver(s) built in. I could be wrong.
Anyway, try and you'll see.

Good luck

I have a Asus A7N8X-E Mobo and nope, the SATA harddrive doesn't show up.

I've tried some many guides and nothing is working. Keep getting this error: hmm.gif

I have tried using Nlite to slipstream the SATA driver but I get some ****ty blue screen of death after format, about some missing drivers.

meh, typical windows...

I'v sorted it out now guys. Thanks for your help.

@ oddcrap: I don't need useless posts like that...
Prophecy
This is a common file most MOBO suppliers are releasing Make Disk programs or Files that are not packaged right for installing SATA you have to go in and manually copy the files according the readme.txt.

Um no you do need drivers on a floppy or somewhere. The XP CD don't have em. Unless you slipstream it... whistle.gif

I installed Asus SATA driver after Windows XP was installed. I believe this is the only way to get SATA drives working. This only works when your ATA drive installed with Windows XP and given your 2nd hdd is SATA.

You can actually Slipstream the SATA drivers into XP boot cd easily by using nLite and use it for Windows installation without requiring you the Floppy Disk. The details guide is available here http://maxeasyguide.blogspot.com/2008/04/p...llation-cd.html
