the logon screen doesn't do anything reallly. It has nothing to do with the boot.ini.
I would recomend repairing an xp install by putting the xp cd and reparing it when it askes you to. Or boot into dos and make a new one.

boot screen = ntoskrnl.exe

BUT SP1 and SP2 are different, so i dont think it will work...

yes im scrapped the idea of the xp pro boot screen but my problem is that my boot.ini file is messed up. before when i started my computer it just started with no options to select but now i must find windows xp home

if no one can send me the file can someone tell me what to put in my boot.ini file?

currently its:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (bootscreen)" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /KERNEL=kernel1.exe
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

Thanks
