I know starcraft came out for the N64 and it sucked. I've heard about games like Age of Empires 2 that were supposed to be ported to consoles but I think they were cancelled.

starcraft on n64 was the only true rts they tried on consoles, and it failed miserably

Ok well I guess no one understandes what im saying so one last time I will say what im going to say Games made for the pc , it doesnt matter what gerne it is , is made to play with a keyboard , alot of people who say they dont a console is that controls are bad , but I belive you guys agree with me that If a games made for a console its made to play with a controller. Now if they port a pc game to a console they will make it so you can play with a controller its simple as that and when I say that they will make it so the game is very playable with a controller , and yes it wont be the same as a pc , it could be worse or it could be just fine.


OK you understand if they ever port games to console they will make it playable with a controller or they wont port it . RTS wont be on consoles anytime soon. Then again I can say fighting games wont be on the pc anytime sone but does anyone care no , Im very sure most people dont mind.

You say that if a game is made for a console, it's made to play with a controller and if a pc game is ported to a console, it should be easily playable with a controller. That's not true. The game dictates what controls you should be using, not whether it's PC / Console. If the game plays well on a PC with mouse / keyboard, it would be played well on a console with mouse / keyboard (if that was allowed). I think you're trying to assume a few things that are true, but unfortunately, according to many people, are not.

My second point is: graphics do matter, not directly, but for comparison's sake. A game could have really crappy graphics (like doom 1) and it would still be an awesome game. That's because that game is...11 years old? Back then, our expectations were lower, and other games probably had comparable graphics. Comparable is the keyword. Nowadays, although many fans would still say it's a good game, for me, it's no longer such a good game since my expectations are higher and it's no longer comparable to other games made right now.

This topic is like asking a girl/guy (depends on your sexuality... ) if they want to have sex with you.

The pc girl/guy:
- They look better.
- They’re more popular.
- If you want to have sex with them you’ll have to spend some money.
- You most keep them up today or they will kick you.
- Playing a new game on an old pc is like having sex with an old woman; it’ll look crappy and everything will be slow but you’ll end up having an orgasm.

I love games, I own a PS2 (soon to buy the thin version as the laser on my old one is on the way out) PES4 (best game ever), I own a gamecube (zelda and pikmin rock) a couple of gameboy advance's (doesn't sound right but what the hell) and of course a PC.

I have been playing games on various formats for around 20 years (my first machine was the crazy atari (I think) machine which had 8 switches on it and only played pong ) and have had almost every type (amstrad, spectrum, amiga, nes, snes, every sega system (yes even a saturn ).

So I think I am qualified enough to write this.

Consoles aren't designed to play RTS and FPS games, sure you can play dumbed down versions on them but what's the point.

I have completed numorus FPS on the PC but have yet to even get halfway through a FPS on a console, reason... you cannot aim with a controller.

There are great games for the consoles (see above for some of my favourites) most of the best games for consoles are platform/adventure based or driving but I prefer playing games on my PC just for the higher resolution, better graphics and variety of different methods to control games. Playing NFSU2, plug in my force-feedback wheel and off I go..playing Rome:Total way, keyboard and mouse...playing PES3, PS2 controller.

Oh one console I will never own and never will is an Xbox. I hate them with a passion..

1. They are the size of a small continenent.
2. The controller sucks.
3. It ruined Deus Ex:Invisable War
4. I already own an Xbox 8 anyway (it's called my PC)

I got my PS2 a few years ago for £200. It came with MGS:SOL. Since then, I have only purchased GTA:VC for it. Those are the only PS2 games I have. The next purchase will be GTA:SA this Christmas. My point is, loads of cash has been spent on these items, and what the hell for? I finished both games like over a year ago.

I think this is a very good topic because I think there are a lot of fanboys out there. Not just for not buying a console but for everything. I consider myself a gamer who has very little bias. I play PC games, and I have all the consoles (even the GBA SP). I play whatever games are best and I buy them for wahtever system. Some people just get too caught up in the fanboy bull****.

I don't feel like buying a console, because my friend has 3 Xboxs, 2 Playstation 2s, and 1 Gamecube. So whenever I want to play a console game I just borrow one of his.

The main reason I upgrade my PC isn't for games. I upgrade for flexability and work, but a positive side effect is my games run better.

I spend lots of money on both console and PC. And I play both often too....

- Madden 2005 Franchise on Xbox with my brother and his friends (We play our games almost daily)

- GBA (Not really a console, but another reason to spend money) I play Mario and Luigi Super Star Saga while I'm sitting around (No I still haven't beaten it, call me a retard if you like)

- Mortal Kombat: Deception on Xbox, stuck at Tanya. Can't beat her for the life of me. But I still try about every other day.

And I just recently upgraded my computer with a new motherboard and CPU (P4 3.0 Prescott) so I could play me some Half-Life 2, Doom 3, and World Of Warcraft which is on the way to my house right now thanks to EBGames (I can't friggen wait!).

I like having the best of both worlds. Gives me the oppertunity to enjoy titles I want to play now, right now!

If you can fund having an addiction to multiple consoles/PC gaming you can always find friends that own them and go play your heart out there. I'm sure they'd love the company.

Firstly, I spend more time gaming with my PC. I'm the first to admit that and I mainly play FPS games because I feel that a keyboard/mouse combo is far superior to a control pad - they're unusable to me because I've been a keyboard/mouse man for so long. I do play many other games though, covering most genres.

However, I own an Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube. I don't really play my Gamecube much but it does have some great games. All the consoles have their own batch of exclusive games that will never come out for PC and if you're a true gamer that appreciates games for what they are, then you'll want to own one of the consoles for those games. I bought my PS2 three years ago now and while I haven't used it that much up until recently (thanks to GTA SA) I'll admit that there's a decent selection of games out there for it. The way they look doesn't bother me - I don't play console games for graphics. I would rather play GTA on PC because of the graphics, but I'm personally too used to playing it with a control pad, although a mouse would help for a few missions I have what I class as a high-end PC (A64 and GF6800U) but I still enjoy console gaming.

As far as the controller argument goes, I agree ... to an extent. I can't play FPS games on consoles because I hate using a pad to aim, but then I can't play GTA on PC with keyboard and mouse alone. Generally speaking, console games aren't designed to target the same audience that PC games are and that's where I feel the problem is. To be perfectly blunt, they're aimed at different age groups and that's why we're seeing this disparity here.

The true gamers would own all, appreciate all and see each platform's positive points though

Why get a console when a PC can do everything a console can do and lots more!? I have never bought a console, and I plan to keep it that way. Here's why. If I buy a console now, I will have to throw it away in a couple of years and get a new one. If I buy a PC now, I can just upgrade it whenever I want. So if you put things down, PC comes cheaper.

I use the PC because it has a mouse, i feel like i have more control over games with it expecially when it comes to shooters... Another reason that i like the PC games are that there can be patches, etc. WaW!

I play on everything, ps2, DC , N64 (perfect dark ) AND pc, And though pc is more costly, the beneifts are greater also, The knowledge and education you recieve from tinkering with hardware and OS's.


By far PC is far superior to consoles, But all are FUN its all bout personal preference, if you choose only console and not PC or vise versa your not any less of a gamer than the other.

i prefer a pc cuz: ive been using pcs for more than 15 years by now. consoles are limited, no real OS, work/office function, backup and buring function.
and don't tell me running lunx on an xbox is something similar.
if course consoles are good for a quick gameplay but that's about it.
consoles can't play svcds nor divx.

I use both.. it just depends on the game. I use my xbox for Hockey and Halo but use my PC for Doom3, Hl2, etc.

I can't stand the controls for console games - esp for first person shooter games. Besides, the little joystick rarely offers a reverted mode which is what I am used to.
PC games always seem more immersive and better looking. I don't mind spending more on pc upgrades as long as the games live up to their potential. I was disappointed with Doom3 and feel angry that I jumped on the bandwagon the day it was released. If I had waited for the reviews I would have learned it wasn't worth the money to buy the game and upgrade my hardware.

That's too large a generalization. To an extent, I agree. There is a greater percentage of PC games that are better buys than console games because of the sheer amount of content, etc. But saying there are no quality titles for consoles is bull. They both have their fair share of classics.

Consoles are just more fun for me. They're more... I don't know. Sociable? I can't quite put my finger on it, but with PC games, even online, it's just you, while with consoles, they seem more based towards group play. Not all, but many.

And I know about the mod communities and how devoted they can be, but there are online console groups that can be just as dedicated, only for different aspects of the game.

I have a Mac, a couple PCs, and an Xbox. Since I got my Mac, it's what I use for everyday type stuff. I mainly play sports games and fighting games on the Xbox (though I do have Halo 2 and Fable). The PC is mainly used for FPS, RTS, and RPG games.

However, I do play Warcraft3 on my Mac instead of my PC

As stated before, most of the best games come out on PC first. They also play better on PC, with a better picture, frame rate and more availible controls. They will always have the ability that consoles don't give: better games on better hardware within 24 months of the release. PC's also provide the satisfaction of knowing you have built/adapted something and done so well enough to play this incredible, resource draining, testosterone injected gaming challenge. Oooh, I love PC gaming.

I have my PC feeding s-video graphics to my Sony Wega TV, I have my SoundBlaster feeding audio to my 5.1 Dobly Digital 550Watt home stereo receiver, and i put my Logitech cordless mouse and logitech cordless keyboard on my coffee table (which coincidentaly is a sweet arse coffee table that 'lifts' up to a good height for eating and playing games), dim the lights, and enjoy PC gaming in the perfect way.

I want to play the best games possible (graphics, sound and most importantly gameplay). This requires a PC.
As I do pay for upgrades on my PC there's no point me getting a console.
Factor into that- games are generally cheaper on PC, and I do everything else on my PC, like burning, editing, having all my films/music on the hard drives etc.
Oh and a keyboard & mouse are nicer.

I prefer gaming on my PC more now actually, never thought I'd say that but there's something nice about being huddled in front of my display. I grew up with the NES and it was great and I still love console games but my mood shifts and it's nice to have both. I wouldn't say one way is better than another (aside from control issues with certain genres) rather they are just different.

Wrong. People use that excuse because they know that <insert favorite console> isn't capable of being as good as a PC.

I consider myself a PC gamer (back in the day I owned a snes and used to play my mates old nes/mega drive etc). Back then, consoles definetely had an advantage over PCs. But now, there is just no comparison.
Aside from the ultra high detail and great frame rates PC's just offer so much more to the gamer. Take counter-strike for example, new maps are released ALL the time for that (3rd party), new models are released (my CS 1.6 has better looking models that CS:S). Such a game on say XBOX just wouldnt work. Not only are the controllers completely and utterly retarded for FPS (playing halo2 last nite, just not fun at all), but the user would never be able to get the same sort of customisability that the same game on PC would.

I guess if you dont want to fork out money for system upgrades (lets not kid ourselves, it doesnt cost THAT much to upgrade..) then a console is for you.
But if you prefer to be IN CONTROL of your gaming experience a PC definetely suits your needs better.

Yes it would work , you know now alreadys like Ive said before consoles are becoming more like pc's. You can download new content ( maps , models, etc. ) if it is released for download , sure you cant have custom content but that would be a reason not to buy a console, for custom cotent , not upgraded/new content.

One last thing about controls , I dont get how you can say the keyboard/mouse is better for everyone , how it will always be better for everyone to use , thats not true. I know it may be better for you , ok thats fine but not everyone. You can go ask eveyone that has halo 2 if the controls suck too I beat most of them would disagree , mabye some would say I think it would be easier for them not eveyone , using a keyboard but, I can say they wouldnt say the controls suck for halo 2.

for pc i can get games for free.. its harder for xbox/playstation/dreamcast/gamecube as i would have to burn the cd and also have a modchip installed to play them.

much less of a hassle with pc, much better controlls (mouse+keyboard > gamepad), higher refreshrate and fps, higher quality, and no need to set up and plug in to the tv

I have been playing computer games since 1984 and consoles games since '86. I cut my teeth on a Commodore 64 (when I was 7) and I moved on to a pc in '89 where our Commodore went belly up. Il loved copying commodore games and building my collection up. I have always liked PC Games better because of the graphics, gameplay, and great games. I have owned a lot of consoles but they have never given me as much satisfaction as a PC. I enjoy updating drivers, buying new hardware, and constantly tweaking my computer for better performance. You don't get that with a console, you just plug it in and that is it. The graphics and controls were so bad on San Andreas I decided to sell my PS2 and I won't miss it one bit.

Auto Aim sucks and I will be a pc gamer for life. Long live the mouse and keyboard. I will always have a gamepad by my side in case I want to play some sports games.

the truth is, we don't spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars upgrading our PCs...well at least me anyways. The only thing I have upgrade since I bought my PC 3 years ago is $50 on 1Gig of RAM and $20 for a optical mouse. Everything else is still perfectly useable. And I am able to play all games which include HL2 and Doom 3. Why do we not buy consols?...PCs are more useful. You can browse the net, do yor homework and everything else. Consols on the other hand simply play games. And also, often there is only 1 or 2 games good for a consol so therefor proves my point even more why we don't buy consols....PC will be just fine for me until my 64bit and Longhorn.

I use my Xbox for gaming and my PC for general use. (internet, school work, etc) I'm just more of a console gamer because I prefer the games on consoles. Sports, Racing, Halo,...its my kind of gaming. I'm not into MMOs and Half-Life 2 barely appeals me. So it's just personal preference really.

And I agree with ragn4rokk's previous statement that console games are more social. So true. I have many parties and friends always come over so its always fun to sit down to Halo 2 Lan or madden.

cmon guys take mah place , in india we dont get cheap gfx cards ( a 9800 pro costs like 375$) imagine what a 6800 ultra would be like , plus like me if you upgrade from a gforce 2mx400 64mb to a gforce 5200 128 , you will always find a console to be a better option . though i do agree that nothing can come close to the control or quality of games released for a pc , though maintaing a gaming pc ( atleast in india ) is a very expensive affair .

a few reasons:
1) Star Wars: Galaxies doesn't work PS2 or XBox
2) Everquest II doesn't work on PS2 or XBox
3) Neowin doesn't work on PS2 or XBox
4) none of my p0rn seems to work on PS2 or XBox
5) Bittorrent doesn't work on PS2 or XBox
6) Can't get Usenet on PS2 or XBox

Thw thing about consoles in that there is only so much that you can do on them ... like when i bought my pc, i had the option of getting a decent pc + console for gaming or decent pc + decent video card for gaming. I would have have to buy the pc any way and the thing abt pc games is that they are more diverse, and most of the cool console games do get ported to pc (though i wish they did a better job of it).

Anyway i would say that each has its merits and if i could afford it, i would have gotten all the consoles i could. But on a limited budget, i think that pc is the best bet

Nope, Dune II for the Genesis, and it was a s%@^load of fun. What got me into the RTS genre. I like both, Console for Sports, RPG's, Driving, and GTA3 type games. PC for FPS and RTS games. I like consoles for their ease of use, easier to hook up to a big screen, and their much lower costs. You say your computers are used for much more than gaming, but why the hell are people spending $300 or more on a graphics card when that'd get you a new console with three to four games.

For me it's more a genre question, I have 3 PCs a PS2 and a GC.

for example:

Fighting = PS2
FPS = PC
After pub game = GC

i only really buy games for the GC that are exclusive for GC, marioKart, viewtiful Joe (i know it's on PS2 now) Zelda etc.

PS2 pads are so sturdy and well designed that i like fighting games on it more, and imo it's the best console games wise because there's such a choice.

PC because i've always had one for work or study and frankly it wets over most console games and has a mouse & keyboard.

Games on the PC that are also on console are nearly always vastly better and i cant stand FPS games on joypads.

If i had to keep just one it'd be the PC. I nearly waited for GTASA on the PC because of the vast difference between console & PC on GTAVC and because of the MTA mod but i played it on my bros PS2 and had to buy it for PS2 that day ii liked it so much. That and because of the free bandana

Maybe a different perspective for me, as I have a sneaking suspicion I'm a bit older than some, if not most of you here. Been a gamer since the Atari 2600 (my first console when it was new). I've always had consoles, and got into pc's during the first wave of the 386 (yeah, I kinda skipped the 286 because I was working on mainframes at the time). I've always loved pc games until the last few years, as just sitting with your face in a monitor during work and play gets old. I also got tired of the contant upgrade hassle (and no, it's not due to "technological challenges" as I am nowhere near a technologically challenged individual.. I hold my own very well in that arena). If I'm gonna upgrade my system, it's because I need to do it in order to make money, not to feed the constant cycle of hardware and OS upgrades. I am quite happy with my xbox.. which is strange seeing as I hate M$ as a company and use their software on as limited a basis as possible (when there's no other possible choice.. which is somewhere between very little and never), If you feel a console is too "kiddie" for you, I say get over yourself, cause you obviously have issues. I totally agree with the original poster in that it is gameplay and not graphics that make a game. There is a legitimate gripe if you prefer a mouse/keyboard combo for your fps's, and if you just have to you can hook up a keyboard and mouse to the xbox. So for me, a computer is 95%+ work, console is 100% games.

FYI on the kiddie issue, I have several friends who are also gamers. We all use consoles, and are all past the age of 40. No wonder I see so many people that wonder where all the chicks are because they never do anything except sit all alone 12" from their little monitor, while myself (and I am female btw) and my friends gather at each others houses and kick back in the living room socializing in front of the tv, or split up in teams, 1 xbox in the living room with 4 people, 1 xbox in the bedroom with 4 people, and 1 xbox in the basement with 4 people for a nice networked game. I can promise that no matter what resolution or framerate your pc is running you're not having as much fun as 12+ people screaming at each other from all corners of the house.

I'm a console gamer and pc why can't people just buy a console pc up-grades cost to much console games don't lag as much. You don't pay like $120 for an upgrade with a console. With a console (X-box) you can system link them and play some great games you know the one. Its just not the same with a pc sure you can system link but to you get a controler no. Must games from a console to a pc arn't good like Halo sheilds look gay until they came out with the patch adn it still looks gay on mine. So I say put like $120 to a console instead of a ATI 9800 pro they all go out of date.

I like mod capability and the extra depth that PC games have traditionally offered. the last year has not been a very good year for PC games to really prove that standpoint but I will say that I have picked up an Xbox and a PSTwo (Just for SA really...) in the last 6 months.

Basically I like PC games better. I like screwing with things when they dont work, and I like braing things when they do work so a PC is perfect for me. Its not that expensive if you build your own machines and pick the right upgrades.

Oh, its probably worth mentioning that I dont do any kind of work on my home PC. Its a stereo, movie player and games machine mainly. Dont even have a word processor installed. Well unless you count notepad

i dont think that its so much a refusal to buy buy consoles, personally, i'd quite like to have an Xbox, PS2 and GC, but my PC lets me play alot of the games that are available on those formats, and so much more... lets me surf net, email my friends and family, free phone cals, uni work and the list goes on.

the only reason that i dont go out and buy a console is that i wouldnt really play it that much, i would get the one or two games that arent available on pc finish them and then it would sit there collecting dust.

Prefer PC's for several reasons (most already outlined).

- Better graphics
- Better controls (FPS on a gamepad... seriously)
- Greater variety (more genre on PC, or maybe they're better done on PC)
- Gotta be a tweaker (it'a hard to tweak with a console, expect an xbox, which is a PC).

Mainly prerfer PC games over console games because the lack of graphics power and poor controls (in some situations) lessens my enjoyment of the games. Also not everyone is full of cash. In Australia, an XBox is ~$250-$299 (~$150-$200 pre-owned). Plus another controller, that's $50, plus DVD Remote, $50, plus the game, $90. That's $400-$500 just there. Many of us just don't have that kind of money to flaunt around because GTA:SA hasn't been released on PC yet. I'm hard pressed enough to go down to the local store and pay $90 for a game. IMO, that is way overpriced for many PC titles (if not all). Considering most titles are relatively short (10hrs or so) and have little or no replay value (only popular games get australian multiplayer servers), I can't justify the cost......

yes my reasons for pc over consoles are

-Better Graphics
-Keyboard and Mouse
-Free online game play
-No TV
-Dont have to spend losts of money on a console that has graphics 3 years old and wont be replaced or upgradable until the next console which is out of date when it is released

I dont spend much money on hardware. i make a pc that will last. i will have the ability to play any game for the next few years with max everything, because it may not be the fastest but i will have the capibility. xbox doesnt support dx9. dx9 is a big thing. pixel shader 2.0 for example. PC's also have the capability of being much much more than something to play games. i can listen to music, watch video and get any information i need within seconds on one platform. its also a communications hub. The console is for games. but for games made for that console meaning that the graphics are limited by that console's abilities, the gameplay is limited by the controller set, and MP is no where near as fun, one you have to pay for it. for me it makes no sense why one would get a console, i mean they were great back in the day but now they are really if u think about it a waste of cash when you can build a pc for just a lil bit more that is much faster and has the ability to alot alot more. thats just my 2 cents.
