I've been looking into buying a 9800Pro Mac Ed. for my PowerMac (specs in sig) however the cheapest I've found them for, is around the £340 mark ($600+ USD), now the 'normal' 9800Pro can be had for less than £150.

I always thought the higher price was because (amongst other factors) the ME would feature an ADC connection, which I require for my cinema display, however I read this morning that the 9800Pro ME Retail does not feature an ADC connector, just VGA and DVI, so in order to use it, I actually need to buy a DVI->ADC converter anyway!!

In my mind, that makes the £340 price tag seem even more harsh than it did before. So I was wondering if it's possible for me to just dump a 'normal' 9800Pro in my Mac, as buying the ME just isn't viable.

I previously read all that was needed is a firmware flash to the card to make it work in a Mac, does anyone have any info on this?

Thanks for any help.

The ability to flash a PC card to Mac was lost a few cards ago....

The 9800 Pro SE Radeon for Mac does come with the ADC connector on the retail card (256mb) version. The non-pro version (128mb) is the one with the DVI/VGA set up....

The 256mb "special edition" is for G5's (note the 8x AGP). The 128mb version for G4's came with an ADC on the OEM card offered by Apple for BTO machines, however the retail comes with DVI and VGA.

muzzle, it's pretty much looking that I will have to import one, seems the best way at the moment. smile.gif

Yep you're right....my bad. Looks like you would also have to fork over the bucks for the ADC to DVI thing-a-ma-jig....

If they dont want to send to U.K. lemme know i'll forward the post to you.

I wouldn't see why a company wouldn't if they verified funds.
