I didn't see a thread about this, and I think its a good thing to throw out there. There are a lot of freeware programs out there that are good and can save you a lot of money. I don't know too many, so I will probably learn more from this than most of you, but here is what I know.

OpenOffice http://www.openoffice.org
Essentially Microsoft Office for free.

Firefox http://www.mozilla.com
Web browser with pop up blocker and download manager.

Adaware http://www.lavasoft.com
Great program for getting rid of Spyware.

Spybot: Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Another great program for getting rid of spyware.

DLExpert
Best downoad manager I know of.

Gaim http://gaim.soureforge.net
Progam that allows you to combine chat programs into one easy interface.

Sorry that I don't know too many freeware programs, but I'm sure there will be many others that know far more than I do.
