Hi all,

I have a driver problem after updating to the latest printer driver (from Epson website) for an Epson R800 printer using Firewire (IEEE1394) comm. on a WinXp SP2 machine. This printer previously worked fine on this same PC with the original driver on the Epson CD. The problem now occurs with either the original or updated drivers.

When I first turn on the printer to start installing the Epson drivers
(after first uninstalling any previous Epson driver via Add or Remove programs in Control Panel) a balloon comes up that says:

"Found New Hardware - EPSON 1394.3 Device",

then a "Device Installer Error" popup window comes up that says:

"Windows could not load the installer for EPSON1394D3PRINTER. Contact your
hardware vendor for assistance."

Thereafter, the printer is not found by the Epson software and if I continue with the software installation the printer will wind up not communicating with the PC via Firewire.

Epson could not offer any helpful guidance.

Does anybody know what installer the above error message is referring to? Is this part of Win XP? This error comes up before I even begin installing the Epson printer software.

The other Firewire devices (external Maxtor Hard Drive and a Dazzle DV Bridge) work fine on this PC.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Have your driver unpacked, ready on your desktop. Then go to Control Panel/System/Device Manager. Find your printer, right-click, hit Update Driver, then "I have a driver" . and select your desktop as your location. This should then update the driver. Let us know if not.
