Hi,
I am brand new to Linux and have installed Suse 9.2 with Gnome. I have installed a theme similar to Panther but the buttons appear on the right like on XP.
Is there a way to make them appear on the left?
Many Thanks
James

It should be possible.
I know it can be done in fluxbox:
http://www.fluxbox.org/features/titlebar.phpEDIT: I am not sure, but if you have been googling for this using "gnome" as a keyword, you may be chasing the wrong target. I think that you may want to be looking for the ability to change this in metacity (gnome's current window manager) or in sawfish (gnome's previous default window manager), as I think that the WM will handle the decorations, not Gnome.
Perhaps a knowledgable expert will shed more light on this matter.
EDIT #2: Looks like the question was answered below while I was typing my first edit.
Open up gconf-editor, it's in the System Tools menu here, or just run gconf-editor.
Then go to apps -> metacity -> general.
You'll see a key called button layout. From here you can change the window button layout. The colon is of course the center of the window. Then just do something like this -> close, maximize, minimize:menu.
Change the order to whatever you like of course, not sure what the order is on a Mac. I just have menu, minimize:close. Works for me.

WOW! That was so easy! I love linux.
Thank you. I have only been running the system for 24 hours now and it's fantastic.

Glad to hear such a positive review!

Linux is really an
amazing OS for those who don't mind learning new and different things.
Yes, I love using Linux. It can be as simple to use as Windows. And it still allows you to get under the hood and tweak it, if that's what you like.
