I got my 4th generation 20GB iPod the other day and on the manual it says the battery will last up to 12 hours. I have charged up my iPod about 2 or 3 times already and when I have charged it, atleast once or twice I completely flattened the battery and it gave me the warning saying that I need to charge my iPod. But for some reason my battery does not go on for 12 hours, it’s more like 4 – 6 hours, is this because of the usage of blacklight ? (I have it set to stay on for 2 seconds)

My quick guide to 12 hours of battery life.
No EQ, no sound check, no shuffle, no blacklight, and no skip through the song for 12 hours.
Use backlight when you desperately need it.

I hope you understand what they mean when they say 12 hours, charge it, and click on play, it's 12 hours of continuous endless playing, it's really logical the more you use the backlight and the more you flick around songs, it will need more energy to traverse through all those items, so obviously it won't last all that 12 hours, make yourself a nice playlist if you continuously flick through songs, because every audio device manufacturer anticipates that whatever people put on their players they would listen to, and not just skip it, otherwise what's the point of storing it in the player.

If you like skipping songs and such, that will drain the battery even more.
This is why i'm not gonna get an ipod.
My iRiver's battery life lasts me over 12 hours (with skipping, EQ and backlight)

Battery life doesn't bother me, not away from a mains socket more than 12 hours
The first few times you use your iPod, the battery wont be up to par. Charge it again straight through the ac adaptor for at least 3+ hours and see what happens.
Same for most rechargeable devices - my K700i lasted half a day before, now I get 2-3 days use out of it (with me constantly playing about!).

Jesus timmah if you could marry your iriver you would wouldn’t you?
I usually don’t listen to music for 12 hours straight but I haven’t had about a low battery life with my 4g 40 gig
Hey! Leave me to troll in peace.

My so-called quick guide (

) also applies to other devices such as iRiver or Dell ones.
