So far i've counted 5 in the past 2 days...

first time was random, downloading a file from camino to my desktop.
so i decided to reformat my mac. Now, every time during the update i get that kernel panic all the time (i've re installed mac os 5 times now, each one with a kernel panic during the update). Oh i forgot to mention, it only happens when the update is optimizing OSX...

is there any way i could tell whats wrong with my computer?

[EDIT]
Specs:
800MHz PowerPC G4
512MB DDR266 (upgraded from the standard 256)
30GB Hard drive <- what i suspect is the problem
Airport Extreme (i added this)

purchased in april 04. also purchased extended applecare warranty with it.
[/EDIT]

Apple Diagnostic cd says theres nothing wrong... with anything

i cant, that would bring me down to 128... i kinda lost the original sodimm.

edit: its not the memory, i just ran an extended apple hardware test... memory passed, and i've had that memory in there since the second week i had the iBook... no problems until now, when the hdd started clanking, now it clicks if i touch the case (tap where the hdd is hear 3 small clicks)
