Full Version: [vncservers] Support composite (Xorg?)

I recently found out about the sexy (but pointless hmm.gif) soft drop-shadows and true transparency features of Xorg. My setup works whenever I issue startx locally on the machine, but my vncviewer ignores any of the features.

I've setup the ~.vnc/xstartup to closely resemble ~/.xinitrc, but it still doesn't show.

Also, during my vnc session, commands like glxinfo, or glxgears, yield the following errors:

QUOTE
Xlib:  extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0".
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual

&

QUOTE
Xlib:  extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0".
glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual

respectively.

Any idea what's going on?

You can't use GLX or composite over VNC because those are features the VNC display can't handle. Even if you could, I wouldn't recommend it.

I don't think you can.

While I don't think that VNC types of apps will show the hardware-rendered effects, I to think that you might be able to use X forwarding, and see the 'real' screens on another Linux box (or other OS capable of X).

I dont think you can either. I remember seeing something about that on Infosayso.com

I fought with this for weeks trying to do my graphics programing for school on remote connection...never worked, I gave up.

Edit: Maybe xf4vnc will work. I just found this....let me know.

i am not sure but NX clients might be able to do this.
