Home doesn't have the Group Policy Editor so you'll have to use TweakUI.

For those using Windows XP home or pro edition, there's a much simpler way to get rid of ALL icons on the desktop and leave it 'clean' - just right click on your desktop --> Arrange Icons By --> Show Desktop Icons (untick).

Using MS PowerToys.TweakUI Version 2.10.0.0
TweakUI
After you install it, open tweak, click desktop, uncheck everything.

Disable Recycle Bin. Right click on the Recycle Bin on your Desktop, and go to properties. Then click on auto delete.

START, RUN type "regedit". Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace"

Find the following key: "{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}"

Delete that key, hit F5, and close the registry editor.
