I have Verizon Wireless (digitalchoice300 plan). If I receive a text message and decide not to open it, am I still charged the 2 cents?

Wtf? You get charged for receiving messages?

Strange.. here in Aus, we have to pay 25c to send a message, but nothing to receive them. I've always wondered what the prices were like in USA for mobiles calls/messages

25 cents (Australian or American??) either way, for an outgoing message - it's a rip off!!

As for incoming messages, I don't know what Verizon does but T-mobile and Cingular do not charge for incoming messages

I can't believe that it costs money to open a text message in some places, thats a rip off, because you never sent the message.

It costs me AUD$0.22 to send a SMS message (total rip off for a small text message), but I'm aware that there are plans that give you hunderds of SMS's a month for nothing.

rightofway, I'd change phone plans if they are charging you money to reveive a text message on your mobile phone.

You don't get charged in the u.k by any network for opening a txt message.
It's between 7p and 12p (14-22 us cents) on a payg tariff to send one, cheaper (or free) on a subscription tariff.

I can't believe thay charge you for opening a message, that's ridiculous.

yes they do charge.

t-mobile = 5cents to send/receive
cingular = 10cents to send/receive

t-mobile txt plans are..
$2.99 per month for 300 total messages per month.
10.99 per month for unlimited amount of txt mssgs.

also for anyone who has t-mobile.. always take advantage of their t-zones service. just call 611 and ask to try out t-zones for a month for free. you get unlimited bandwidth.. i don't know if thats the correct term they use, but you can browse all you want, i don't know if downloading pictures or ringtones will be free though.. then a few days before the month is up, call up, cancel the service, wait a week or two, call back for the same promo. i did it for about a year straight and now i just don't use it. otherise its 2.99 a month.

I know Cingular charges 10 cents incoming and 10 cents outgoing, but i'm unsure about T-Mobile.

where do you live.. because when i signed up 2+ years ago they're plan was you can receive 50 for free and it was 5cents to send.

now its 5cents send/receive.

AT&T is the only provider that lets you receive for free, that I know of. Although, they merged with Cingular, so I'm not really sure anymore. I hope it's still free, because I use AIM Forwarding. smile.gif

i have cingular's media plan for 250text, 50media, and 1mb internet for $7.99 . heck of a lot cheaper than paying for $.10 each text and $.25 for each media. at least for how much i use my phone
