HI everyone, first time posting here. I'm setting up a test server running Server 2003 and a client running XP and can't seem to get the group policy to push the settings onto the client. I setup an OU and a user within AD and created a GPO for the OU; for example disable control panel access. But it doesn't work. Some fyi about the server setup. It's running Server 2003 with static addresses (192.x.x.x) and is the domain controller. I have a feeling it's because I'm not running a DNS server causing the AD to not be able to push the GPOs properly, I dunno. My ISP is providing the web hosting, so I never figured that I needed a DNS server and just used the DNS numbers that they provided for the static addresses. Any ideas?

I'm positive you have DNS running, it's just not configured properly. The reason is that AD cannot be installed without DNS installed.

I have posted before on how to configure DNS, search my posts...

I think you are not receiving your GPO because it doesn't update very quickly. To manually update it go to a command prompt and run the command without quotes "gpupdate /force" then reboot the pc.

You did put the user in the OU right?

Have fun!!!

Also make sure that you're not trying to apply a Computer policy to a user, or vice-versa, that won't work.
