Which is better?

The Canon PowerShot A400 or Samsung Digimax 530?

I noticed the Canon is only a 3.2MP and the Samsung is a 5.1MP. However, I went over to dpreview.com and noticed the Samsung lacks a few things compared to the Canon. I'm confused and not sure which one to get. Any ideas?

Thanks and the reason why i'm comparing is b/c these are on sale.

What sort of things does the Samsung lack over the Canon? They seem pretty close to me. I'd get the Samsung, as it seems like a bargain. Either way you can't go wrong. I own a Canon camera and am generally pleased with it. I just wish that mine had optical zoom.

Okay here are some of the things the Samsung lacks or I think lacks.

- Sensor size on Canon is larger.
- ISO rating 50 apprently isn't on the Samsung.
- Auto focus type on Samsung is TTL while the Canon is Ai AF TTL 9-point
- Max shutter on Canon is 1/1500 sec while Samsung is 1/2000 sec
- Exposure compensation on Canon is -2 EV to +2 EV in 1/3 EV steps, while Samsung -2 EV to +2 EV in 1/2 EV steps
- Metering on Canon is Evaluative, Center Weighted, Spot while Samsung is Multi, Spot
- And last of all, the Samsung doesn't have a Orientation sensor on it while Canon does.

Anyone know if the Samsung is still better than the Canon? Thanks smile.gif

Get the Canon. They make great cameras. Samsung makes a lot of quality displays (probably a nice LCD to look at), but IMO Canon is tops in digital imaging chips right now.

So MP doesn't really matter then? I figured it would make an impact on it..

That only matters if you want to make extremely large prints. I'd rather have a quality 3.2MP camera than the 5MP crap-o cam, not to say that the Samsung is crap.
TheNay
see the only thing thats keepin me to the samsung is the optical zoom, samsung is 4x and canon is 2.2x

hmm.. i'm so confused.. lol

I can easily suggest the Cannon. I'd trust the Cannon Powershot to be a quality camera, and to take beautiful high quality pictures more than any other manufacturer.

do u really need the zoom, id go for canon they make awesome cameras and samsung are just one of those other brands. mp's rnt that important unless ur making a really big photo nd 3.2 is plenty. its all in the lens and other stuff, i think.
TheNay
Well if the lens are better with the Canon then I'm with Canon thumbs_up.gif
Thanks for all your replies smile.gif

MP isnt ainything unless you really zoom it, i mean ALOT. optical zoom is a mai nreason why i got my kodak dx6490 smile.gif

so make sure it has alot of optical zoom, digitalzoom is worthless.

Canon for sure. Don't just look at the features...but you will also look at the manufacturer reputation. Also not to be missed, read every reviews and feedbacks.

check CompUSA, they've got the a400 bundled with a Pixma3000 printer for $179. That'd be a deal maker for me.... smile.gif

You can't order from CompUSA in Canada?
