Former NFL star Reggie White has died after suffering a massive heart attack Sunday morning at his home near Huntersville, N.C., ESPN's Chris Mortensen has learned.

The former Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles star turned 43 on Dec. 19.

"Today our beloved husband, father and friend passed away," White's wife, Sara, said through a family pastor. "His family appreciates your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of Reggie White. We want to thank you in advance for honoring our privacy."

The greatest defensive player in the history of the NFL and NCAA IMO. RIP Reggie. You'll be in hearts here at the Univ. of TN.

Whoa, this really came out of no where. Reggie was an awesome athlete and brings back a lot of memories of old school football. I give my condolences to his family and friends.
....
This really sucks. As much as I disliked the Eagles and Packers...(Cowboy fan, you know..hehe) I really respected Reggie.

Great man. He's finally home.

Not by me, personaly I could care less what makes his death more important then a kid that dies of cancer? Nothing. So why should i greeve for him more then the kid?

and for the record I live in Philly and the Eagles blow.

DarkMindsProject, why would you post something like this?

As I remember Reggie was a bigot and a racist. Look it up if you don't remember the comments he made about gays, asians and indians. Regardless if he could sack the quarterback well, its a loss for football, not humanity. Move along.

You shouldn't. But you should respect everyone who passes, if it is Reggie White or a kid with cancer. I would imagine you would if you heard about the kid, so now that we are hearign about Reggie, we pay respects. His life was not more important than anyone elses, but it certainly was not less.

Not really, more stupid than racist. If you read the comments he made while adressing his state legislature, he also made quite a few stereotypical remarks about blacks as well. He pretty much went across the board.

He's just known by more people.

No more trolling in this thread about Reggie. Consider this a verbal warning to all.

amazing grace...

what a shock, rip reggie 43... blink.gif

how was he such a great role model again...?
imtoomuch
This was definitely a shock to me. Sometimes atheletes die because they overworked their heart or because of drugs. For some reason, even thought it's not what people would expect from Reggie, I immediately said "watch it be drugs".

Anyway, RIP, big man.

My dad and I were actually talking about it too, I was thinking something along the lines of steroids. I wouldn't throw it out as a possibility.

Yeah, was wondering that too, quite alot of athletes start gaining weight when they retire. Not a big football fan here but hope he Rests in Peace all the same. All deaths are a new beginning though.

This is a sad day for all that knew him or of him. He was a good guy. Maybe misunderstood by some, but still a good guy. I was never a Philly or Paks fan, but I did like Riggie White. I won't ever forget him. You will be Missed.

i was at the saints/falcons game in new orleans sunday after he passed away. everyone observed a moment of silence for him, many gasped at first because they didnt know. following the moment of silence, most fans stood and cheered for several seconds. nice respect from the saints fans.
