I'm looking to get an external DVD drive for my G4 Ibook. I am willing to either get one that already comes in an enclosure or save some money from what i figure and get the drive and the enclosure separate. Can anyone recommend me a drive, and will I have to use PatchBurn to get it to work?

Thanks

Edit: I will probably be wanting a Dual Layer drive as it can hold more data.

Edit again: Wow, I'm losing it, meant to say DVD burner, not drive.

I have talked to many people about this before, and the general consensus is that the LaCie 16x d2 DVD+/-RW Double Layer Drive. The downside to this drive is that even though it comes with Toast 6 Titanium, it doesn't work by default with iDVD (There is a easter egg in iTunes that fixes this though.)

There are also others, such as the Pioneer DVR-S706, and many other (normally unsupported) drives if you use a piece of software called Patchburn for support of the drives....I havn't seen any like the LaCie which have the Dual layer compatability though.

I hope this helped. Feel free to e-mail me at gmail.com (inziga is the id) if you have any questions about any of the information in this post. Good luck finding a drive that works well for you smile.gif
