don't bring up the BBB...i just laugh at customers when they threaten with that. the bbb is not an orgainization, they are a COMPANY. they have no rights, the can't uphold any laws, etc. just be polite and curteous.

While the BBB is a company, they are a NPO. Just like the EFF.
If I am unsatisfied with a company, I always file (and will continue) to file a BBB application. If the company is BBB listed they do care about their reputation.
Whenever I file a BBB complaint I always get a response from the company who I am filing against and the answer is always in my favor. Normally their Customer Relations / Executive Services team deal with the complaints unless it is a small company.
Companies I have filed BBB complaints against:
Verizon Wireless for continous defective equipment and bad service.
Resolution: Waived my ETF and I was allowed to keep my number (which I ported over to Sprint)
Hewlett Packard because I had my laptop serviced 3 times in less then 3 weeks for the same issue and the first time they replaced my DVD burner with a CDRW combo drive and my 802.11g card with a 802.11b card
Resolution: Got a brand new (not refurbished) zt3300 out of the deal with better specs then my original laptop (pentium m 2.0ghz, instead of 1.7)
Coleman Company because their power generator basically blew up my house circuity as their technicans uninstalled safety features when it was being serviced
Resolution: $12,000 check for damaged electrical equipment.
Chevrolet of Issaquah Car dealership / Service center as the service performed on my car made the problem worse and caused my transmission to go out
Resolution: Refunded original amount of service, fixed the problem for free and free oil changes on my car for 2 years.
So while BroChaos thinks its laughable that you should report something to the BBB, companies are taking in complaints from the BBB very seriously. I for one don't threaten because very often the rep who is the lowest on the food chain (supervisor being one chain higher and with most companies there are a lot of chains) just don't understand the severity of how their own company treats BBB complaints. Instead they don't care and encourage you to do so.
