I am planning on buying the Dell Axim x50v later today off of Dell's website.. I was wondering what different options I should choose. Which case is best? What type of dock should I get? I know there are many other options to pick as well.

I know many people on Neowin have gotten this handheld. so I'd appreciate the help.

You get a dock and a slip case when you buy the x50v, you might wanna get a spare battry or the bigger one. But all you need is in the box

Though a big CF card would also bee good to pick up

Spare batteries are always a must... I don't know if you can get third party batteries for the x50 but I got a Mugen Power extended battery 2000mAh for a good price on eBay for my X30.. Check aximsite.com for all your axim needs wink.gif it's a good site.

yeah but if you get a bigger battery than the x50v ships with, you wont be able to fit your x50 in a metal case (which is a MUST HAVE)

if you have the money, go with 2 year accidental damage protection.

Well what about the Travelsync cable/cradle as opposed to the normal cradle. And what exactly makes the aluminum case so great?

travel sync cable is basically the same..it performs the same functions as the normal cradle.

If you get the extended battery, your gonna have trouble fitting the ppc in most cases. Do you really want to carry around a 400$ device in some cheap generic dell case with the risk of it falling and cracking that beautiful lcd screen!

If I get the 200 mAh battery as a second battery, will it be too big for the case?

I need an extra battery...

Alright, so I have received my Axim and I am quite happy with it.

Now, is there any way for me to charge my battery when it is not in the PDA? And also, is there any program that can have the battery meter show on the main page. I looked at Wisbar Advance, the free version, and it's not for WM2003 Second Edition. Anything else?

I have a x5 advanced, with your cradle should a xtra compartment on the back of it to charge your spare battery. Also, try Omega One battery pack. it displays your battery life on your welcom screen, and even gives you voice alerts when the battery is charged or running low. You might also want to look into MS Voice command for the pocket pc and Symantec antivirus for handhelds. Normally you wouldn't need an antivirus on a pda, but once you go wifi it's the same as a regular pc, espcially if you check your email on your axim. I've tried some of the freebies out there but the symantec uses less memory, therefore the ax will still run fast, even with realtime protection enable. But you do need a extra memory card. I have a 256mb compact flash and a 256 sd card in mine. Just think, with all of the xtra space you can store tons of music, and/or a few movies. Aximsite has a great tutorial on how to convert a dvd for pocket pc. The files range from 128mb to 256mb. There's nothing like watching Enterprise on a pocket pc for real. If you need anymore Pocket Pc info just pm me. I'll be more than happy to help.

Pocket Pc user since January 2002, and still going strong.

Wow, I can't believe I missed that spare battery charger in the bkac. Stupid me.

For antivirus, I'd rather not buy an antivirus. Are there free ones I could use?
