My friends make fun of me, because even though I have 1.5GB of RAM, i never install anything like this because it uses Memory. smile.gif

To me, it's more than worth it. I hate using a desktop that doesn't have a dock on it. It keeps my desktop icon free and shortcuts are still one click away.

Think of it as Quick Launch but prettier.
Plastique
Why use a dock when you can use quick launch? I never understood that. I tried all 3 docks. Yz, Object, and another who'se name I can't remember, and I never liked them. QuickLaucnh works fine for me, but I'll try this when it gets out of alpha. Maybe it will sway me, but I doubt it.
Inertia
cool im gonna try this out

I started using objectdock because it keeps the desktop tidy looking, but I keep using it mostly because of sysstats. I did have 6 seperate widget programs running and it was killing my pc. Objectdock and sysstats does it all for a fraction of the memory. Even my old 1ghz celeron doesn't slow down with it. I still enjoy bashing Stardock, but I have to give em credit(card) when it comes to OD+.

I tried objectdock before and quite useful. However i stop using it as some people said it slow down game. Quick launch still my best choice although less eye candy and i can put several folders contain different category of program shortcuts (like tabbed category in full objeckdock ver.).

My desktop has one icon on it. The recyccle bin. It also as rainlendar on it, and samurize, but that's it. I personally only ever use it as a temp folder. I stick exe's there for virus scanning, wallpapers and VS zips befoer I stick them in the themes or wallapers folder in My Documents or windows\resources.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not knocking those who whose them, I've just never seen the practicality.

We have enough docks for now...object dock is my favorite happy.gif

I personally don't run a dock. Not because of mem usage, I just don't prefer to use one. However I do download them and try them out, I'm just curious.

But having 1.5Gb of memory and choosing to not run a program because of mem usage is just pure insanity. It's not like the program is going to keep the memory, it's just borrowing it.

I'll be looking into this for sure. I'm using Y'z right now but this one sounds like it could be quite nice thumbs_up.gif

Now why to use a dock.I will not tell you why or why not.Just try it for a month and if you don't like it just...unistall it.Is not a drug to stick with it. devil.gif

Being afraid of useing memory or cpu cycles on eyecandy is just so lame. Even if you are a hard line gamer, you can easly turn windowblinds ,and docks and things off while playing. As for yzdock it only uses resorses when you use it. Even a simple window uses resorses when it is moved around. open your taskmanager ,drag it around and watch the cpu usage clmb. This wine about cpu usage is a concern from when xp first came out and was installed on 500 mhz 128 mb machines, back then it was a concern, with todays machines on average 2ighz up to 4ghz, with at least 512 memory, I can't see the concern. If you must have all resorses for gameing then simply setup another account for gameing and see that nothing starts up n that account. Or follow the black viper's guide on setting up resorse profiles for gameing or regular computing. You can get a gaming profile with next to nothing running then reboot to your regular pc profile. Any way I use YZ dock, windowblinds and cursor xp , I have only 25 running processes, and lots of free memory, and cpu cycles.
