I tend to visit "Hardware Hangout" and "Overclocking and PC Modding" a fair amount of times over the course of the day and over the weeks after the introduction of threads like the temperature database and post your workstation the overall number of other threads has decreased a fair amount.
Getting to the point, the question Im asking is do you think it would be a viable solution to introduce a [benchmark] thread. By this I mean a place where people can post and compare benchmark score with others in a less ad hoc manner than usually takes place.
The only problem I see is the varied amount of benchmarks out there, but the ones that appear to be common place are Sisoft sandras cpu/multi media benchmarks and the 3D Mark series benchmarks.
Knowing this, it appears to be a simple matter of stating:
CPU (rating and speed)
Memory (rating and speed)
Graphics
Hard Drive
OS install (fresh old etc)
Benchmark type + images
cooling (maybe)
Do you think this is a valid option or just overkill considering the present OC thread does include benchmarks?
edit: Forgot graphics >_< and added cooling at pimps request (but I'm unsure about that one)

I agree. Might want people to state their cooling in the post too.

Good to see some people agree, It just felt wise to post it here first and get opinions on the idea first, rather than try and force a thread on people.

hrm, i'm afraid there'll be alot of trolls (i.e. amd vs intel) then. also flaming regarding better <-> older hardware.
IF there'll be such a new (sub)forum i sugguest to hire some fellow neowinans with good hardware knowledge as mod(s) for that aswell to watch it.
my nominations: enigma, islanq, samoa?

Yeah I guess thats something I really did forget, benchmarks tend to bait people into attacking each other

Its a shame.
Btw lets not get into any more talk of moderation hey, we have plenty of capable moderators now.... besides we can all give them a hand with that nifty report button.
shame is it might end up like the "person before" thread, too many flames ...

Well not as many responses as I would have hoped for, would it be ok for a moderator to add a poll to this thread please?

I honestly do not see a real need for this. Everything is laid out fine as it is now.

I don't think a poll will really help that much here EnIgMa. As been said before, popularity does not deem necessity.
Why not create a benchmarks thread yourself in the Hardware or Modding forum, and see how it weighs out with people posting their benches?

Very true pimp, I might do one, but maybe when I get up in the morning... then we will see how it goes. I only posted here to see if we could get a bit of perspective on the idea before I just went and threw my hat in the ring.
