I recently upgraded to Win 2K from 98 on one of the desktops I have at home. This desktop has a CD Writer Plus 9100 series. The cd that came along only has drivers for Win 98. Can someone tell me where to find the Win 2k one? I looked at HP's site, but it looked like you had to pay for the driver cd. Is there any place else? Thanks

You have to pay for drivers from HP. If you upgrade to XP home, pro, or corporate the drivers come with the OS.

my bro doesn't like XP on his desktop. Besides it would run slowly on that system.

You don't need drivers. I have a HP 9100 series and never needed drivers for Win2K. I recently upgraded that box to WinXP and still didn't need any drivers. The drivers are included in the OSes. Well Win2K and WinXP that is.



Here is the driver info provided by WinXP and is basically the same in Win2K:

Driver Provider: Microsoft

Now if your talking about the aspi layer then that's different. You'll need to go to Adaptec's site for more info but if you install some of the more popular CD burner apps they have the aspi files needed.

i got a cd writer 8100 in my old hp machine and it won't work with nero



when i tell it to burn all the time it says "can't perform fixation"





what does that mean

nekrosoft13: Fixation is when the lead in and lead out tracks or also known as T.O.C. (table of contents) are written to the disc. More specifically the Fixation is when you can append a CD, Finalization is when the CD is closed after the burn. A Fixation or Calibration error however is usually caused by poorly made CDRs.

I'll have to load up Nero, my bro had Adaptec before. Maybe that'll work.

drivers are installed with the OS, just like everyone else says. But personally, I think that HP doesn't make quality burners. I had one and it performed like crap. I moved up to my TDK and works great. But yeah, the only thing you need to get is your aspi layer. and nekrosoft, i really would consider using some other media than memorex.

liar2 ---- 95% of time i use Verbatin, i just have 4 or 5 memorex cd-rw.



and i agree with you hp burner are not that good, first of all my hp burner is limited to 74 min, i can't burn 80 min. i did not try in windows xp yet, but in 98 it could only burn 74min.

I use up all 700mb with my HP 9100 in both Win2K and WinXP. Don't be so quick to snuff Memorex. I have had crap from them, TDK, Verbatim, Imation, etc. It doesn't work like that. Most of these guys don't make their own cds. There are about 250 brands of CDR media and only 16 manufactuers like Richo and Ritech. Chances are if you got a hold of some bad CDRs and switch brands you could wind up with the same problem.

i'm not saying that TDK is the best. I know for a fact that they aren't. I've tried many different brands of CD-R media and I've found that some do work better than others. And really, I'm not even using TDK media. But everytime that I've tried to use memorex, i've ended up with a coaster.

Hate to burst your bubble, Mitsubishi may supply them the majority of the CDRs but they are like anyone else. When their purchasers get a good deal from another supplier they run with it. Not one of these manufacturers use the same supplier 100% of the time, it's called smart business.
