Full Version: Reinstalling boot loader

Hey all.

At the moment I'm trying to get into Fedora Core 3 after a Windows XP format. Before I reformatted I could access it fine, but now Windows has overridden grub.

Now, I've tried installing the boot loader again by putting the FC3 CD 1 in and then going through the options. However, at the end it says something about there not being any kernel updates so it can't install it.

Is there any way to get it back? The only way I know is to reinstall Fedora which I don't really want to do unless necessary.

Thanks in advance,

The procedure to do a rescue mode and chroot and do a grub-install should work.

What procedure did you follow, and did you get any errors?

However, if the procedure just isn't working, you will probably be able to put in the CDs and do an "upgrade" from FC3 to FC3, and that may re-write your GRUB. unsure.gif

I did try the upgrade method, but it came up with the kernel error message. I went through the first few screens as I would in installation mode (graphic), then chose to upgrade my installation and used the default 'new' grub settings.

I'll try what you suggested although it may need explaining. I'll give it a go first. smile.gif

Thanks,
