I just got a brand new computer, it came with some half-assed onboard card. what I want to do is completely get rid of the onboard and install my geforce 4. what is the proper way to go about this (i did it once before, but it was years ago)

install the new card, make sure it works, then disable the onboard card in the bios.

uninstall drivers first, shutdown, pop in the new card, reboot, make changes in the bios if needed, then once in operating system, install drivers for new card.
