Any chance they can be taken out of the rotation? That "Smart Spin" flash+sound ad that's sometimes on the front page is pretty damned annoying.

Site and forum issues?
I don't see ads like these.

I'm pretty sure Neowin doesn't use ads with sound. Maybe you have some adware or spyware?
using firefox, ive never heard a one. however the one on aim aim **** me off.

I must be a lucky one than. I've been coming to Neowin for over 2 years and have never gotten any ads with sound.
Only times I've had sound on Neowin are if members break the avatar and sig rules by putting sound in them (using flash).

Ohhhh sheesh that's what it was.
I was listening to music on napster today and then suddently i started hearing the voices, then when i stopped the song the voices would continue for like 2 secs then stop. Then continue the song and the voices would start again.
I thought it was my AIW being stupid, but closing all IE windows fixed it.
Now i know where it was coming from

That shows your ignorance - Neowin makes money from these ads, if you block them you're an ass. Nothing personal, just my opinion on blocking ads on that site
To stay on topic: I saw those ads - pretty annoyng....

i've never been hit with a popup ad on neowin...ever. However the google ads at the top are to support the site and not very annoying.

Nobody said anything about popups. The sound ads we're talking go in place of the more common google tower ads on the right.

never heard a sound...wierd.
thats what it was then, I was listening to Greenday album and I could heard voices
They are Flash Ads that are running on Neowin. You can turn the sound off by clicking on the speaker. The annoying thing is it does not stay off when you come back to the site.

Just a suggestion, instead of bumping your thread around, try to PM an admin about this. The admins are always going to be busy with other stuff related to the site (including things more important than ads), and of course like everyone else they have lives outside of the internet and computers. If they haven't all ready, I'm sure they'll get to this thread eventually.

Yeah and nobody is prolly up that early on staff to read the messages you keep posting.
Anyways I haven't seen any sound ads or if i did they went un-noticed as I most usually have music playing.

a small flaw in that suggestion, this thread was moved by a mod, so it is already brought to thier attention

in my opinion this thread is good for blowing off the steam, and people should post here what they feel, regardles if mods/admins reading this or not.

The Ads are Geo-targeted: They differ depending on the country that your computer is connecting from.

Ive seen a few of these on various sites, however not on neowin yet. (though that will **** the hell right out of me) I listen to music all the time, having someone talking loudly about something i care nothing about over my music annoys me to no extent.

i also noticed that the new(?) ad servers are slowing down the load time. never took this long to load before.

mostly from smarttargeting.co.uk, it seems though.
edit: itxt2.us.intellitxt.com too.
