As we all know the new mac mini's are soon coming out, i was wondering if anyone knows of a Mac like Media Center Application comparable to Windows Media Center Edition. If there is not, i have started looking into developing such an application and started looking into doing some concept art as well..

There are also a few Linux-based apps around that might not be too hard to get running on the Mac. Freevo is one of them.

I love macs and all but I would never try to set one up as a HTPC maybe if someone ported ffdshow and powerstrip but thats not going to happen anytime soon (if ever)

ffdshow/mplayer/vlc all run great on OS X, and there are many apps that use ffmpeg like ffmpegX and HandBrake.

I've tried one of these Windows Media Center things and I keep wanting to use the keyboard or a mouse! Mac mini with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse - sorted.

I should have been more clear, i was looking for Software Only Solutions for this, i have yet to find one, so i am going to make one. It's going to be very mac'ish using all the fun of quartz extreme and openGL for the interface. Im working on getting concept art and concept flash demo's put together.

I did run across SwitchRes X so there is 'powerstrip for mac' I guess I was wrong
I should have specified when I was talking about ffdshow I ment mac lacks the proper post processing filters and such for what I would consider an acceptable image for HDTV/DVD playback
